Peter Milligan has given an update on the status of the X-Statix spinoff, X-Cellent. Milligan responded to a fan on Twitter, who said that it was "criminal" that no word on the spinoff had been released."It's coming, we're working on it." Milligan tweeted in response. Milligan will reunite with his fellow X-Statix co-creator Mike Allred for the series, which features the titular team reuniting.RELATED: X-Men: Marvel Unveils October's X of Swords Covers

X-Cellent was first announced last year after Milligan and Allred reunited for the Giant-Size X-Statix one-shot. Not many details have been revealed about the series, though it will see several members of X-Statix reuniting.

Milligan's announcement comes at a time where several of the X-Men titles are in limbo due to the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic. The book's future was called into question recently due to these circumstances. "There are books that were going to happen that are not going to happen now… and books that didn't exist that now will. I don’t think it's too crazy to say a global crisis shifted some of our plans." X-Men group editor Jordan D. White said while discussing this development.

X-Statix first appeared in X-Force #116 in 2001. The team were intended to be mutant celebrities, as opposed to the paramilitary strike force that X-Force is usually depicted as. X-Statix became a cult classic due to its irreverent nature and subversion of tropes within the X-Men mythos.
