The following contains spoilers for The X-Cellent #3, on sale May 18 from Marvel Comics.
The X-Cellent #3 brings a new mutant into the Marvel Universe, and this character is harboring some rather unusual powers.
The X-Cellent #3 comes from writer Peter Milligan, artist Micahel 'Doc' Allred, colorist Laura Allred and letterer Nate Piekos of Blambot. In the preview for the upcoming issue, the X-Cellent are all hanging around Zeitgeist's home after a stand-off with X-Statix and the recent death of Joe Bomb. While spirits are low and confusion runs among the group, Zeitgeist decides to seize the opportunity and introduce some new members to the X-Cellent team.
One of these new members is a mutant named Fluff, whose powers are directly related to belly button lint. "A lot of people have belly fuzz or lint," Fluff says to the team. "Only Fluff can generate bucketloads of the stuff at will, and vary its chemical composition." As Mirror Girl begins to gag, Fluff adds, "The little ladies really go crazy for this!"
The other member introduced is a mutant named Stripe. "I found her lurking in the drapery wing of a famous department store," Zeitgeist tells the team. "She has power over all things stripy." Zeitgeist later tells X-Cellent that the reason for the new team members is because their next missions will be their "biggest, most audacious yet."
While the preview doesn't go into detail about what the X-Cellent's next mission is, both the solicit information for the issue and the cover art reveal that it might involve a familiar Marvel face. The synopsis for The X-Cellent #3 reads, "THE X-CELLENT DID WHAT?! That’s right, you heard it here first — the X-Cellent are taking on Doctor Strange! No one got famous for following the rules, and Zeitgeist knows this. But will this launch them into superstardom, or are they canceled? Zeitgeist will have something to say about that!"
The solicitation for The X-Cellent #4 further teases that Fluff may have a substantial role in the series moving forward. It reads, "ZEITGEIST’S CRAZY FAN CLUB! Zeitgeist recruits two new members for the X-Cellent! Meet their new teleporter Whoosh! And the incredibly handsome Fluff! But will these two turn out to be team players? Or will they be the latest in a long line of adversaries for Zeitgeist?"
The X-Cellent #3 features cover art by Michael and Laura Allred, with variant cover art by Nick Dragotta. The issue releases on May 18 from Marvel.
