A former employee of Wyrmwood Gaming, famed supplies for TTRPGs like Dungeons & Dragons, has accused the company of firing him after reporting a sexual assault on the premises.Per The Fandomentals, the story began after two individuals tweeted about how Wyrmwood Gaming had fired an employee after he'd reported a sexual assault at their offices in 2020. Shortly after, Andy Morocco identified himself as the terminated employee, describing in detail the incident he'd witnessed. He stated that he'd met with a supervisor, Ed Gates, along with another employee close to the victim about the allegation that a coworker had sexually assaulted another in the media room of the Wyrmwood studio. He also provided the names of the two individuals involved and another supervisor that had seen them on-site.RELATED: Dungeons & Dragons Player Creates Adorable, Playable Pokémon Maps

Wyrmwood Employee's Accusation

Morocco stated that an hour after the meeting, Wyrmwood CEO Douglas Costello took him behind the shop to discuss the situation and fired him for, in the CEO's words, "creating shop drama." Following the incident, Morocco says that he and the victim experienced severe emotional trauma and that the remaining employees reported threats of "immediate termination" should they be caught discussing Morocco's firing.

Additionally, Morocco claimed that he had designed the hexagonal dice tray for Wyrmwood but did not receive credit or compensation for it. Morocco also clarified that he had not come forward previously because he planned to pursue legal action, but the COVID-19 pandemic and his funds prevented that. However, the recent tweets led to him deciding to come forward sooner and to warn customers from purchasing products like D&D tables from Wyrmwood.

Wyrmwood Gaming Responds to Sexual Assault Firing Allegations

Shortly after, Wyrmwood Gaming responded to the allegations with an official statement and a strange The Office-style video detailing its discussion about handling the situation. It heavily features Costello and Wyrmwood HR's Basile Antoine debating how to comment, with the latter pushing back on the CEO's suggestions for responding.

In its statement, Wyrmwood claims that it investigated the situation and found that one employee, Employee B, had spread talk of the assault to coworkers rather than management. It wasn't until the accused, Employee A, stepped forward to express concern about a toxic work environment resulting from the rumors that an investigation occurred. Two additional Employees also reported the allegations to management.

According to the company, the reported victim was a consensual partner. Wyrmwood stated that Employee A and Employee B were terminated, as both had displayed toxic behavior before, while the other two employees remained. One continues to work with Wyrmwood. While Costello claimed in the video to have not been aware that the incident took place on company property, a correction in the statement says he received an email about it a week after the incident.

Wyrmwood Gaming has been around since 2018 and quickly gained fame for its TTRPG products like dice trays and D&D tables. It has partnered with and supplied several major third-party D&D groups, such as Critical Role and Dimension 20. It's also headed several prominent Kickstarter campaigns, with a current one leading to the original accusatory tweets as individuals warned against supporting the company.
