WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Wynonna Earp Season 4, Episode 6, "Holy War, Part 2," which aired Sunday on Syfy.

Wynonna Earp Season 4 has put its eponymous gunslinger through the emotional wringer, forcibly separated from her mythical revolver Peacemaker while learning the more troubling history behind her legendary ancestor Wyatt Earp.

Wynonna scoured her hometown of Purgatory far and wide for the missing pistol, which had been taken from her during Season 3 by the demonic Bulshar, going through desperate, morally compromising lengths to re-obtain it. As Wynonna came closer and closer to her goal, she was forced the confront Wyatt's bloody legacy, just in time for her family's historical rivals, the Clantons, to resurface. For series star Melanie Scrofano, the revelations about Wyatt's past cause Wynonna to question everything about her family history and responsibilities as the Earp to defend Purgatory.

"It has been really interesting to look further into the complicated history of the Earp family. There are always dark secrets in every family tree, especially when your family is known for being involved in a particularly famous gun fight," Scrofano told CBR. "Wynonna has always had to live in the shadow of the Earp curse and this season we’re seeing her realize Wyatt might not be the hero she’s been led to believe."

While Wynonna was able to secure Peacemaker and seemingly put down the Clantons for good, the lengths she undertook cost her her romantic relationship with Doc Holliday, who broke up with her in disgust during the midseason finale. With a sneak peek at the second half of Season 4 revealing a drunk Wynonna struggling with the emotional fallout, Scrofano hinted that her character would grow even more reckless than before.

"Ultimately, we’ll see our girl whiskey soaked and reckless as she struggles to find her place in the new reality of Purgatory," Scrofano teased.

In Season 4, the infamous Earp Curse is broken, and witty and wild demon hunter Wynonna Earp would love to be celebrating with cold whisky and hot donuts. Too bad she has to rescue everyone she loves, save the town of Purgatory, and take on her most diabolical, Earp-hating enemy yet — all without her trustworthy gun, Peacemaker. And that’s just Monday…

Produced by SEVEN24 Films and IDW Entertainment, Wynonna Earp stars Melanie Scrofano as the title character, Dominique Provost-Chalkley as Waverly, Katherine Barrell as Nicole Haught and Tim Rozon as Doc Holliday. Season 4 airs on Sundays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on Syfy.
