WWE Women's Championship Match to Main Event WrestleMania for the First Time

The women of WWE are making history once again. The company just announced that it has chosen to make the Raw Women's Championship match the main event of WrestleMania 35 -- the first time the company's woman wrestlers have ever worked the main event of the biggest WWE event of the year.

The match will see Raw women's champion Ronda Rousey defend her title in a three-way match against Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair, according to WWE.com. WWE chose this match over its other option, which was the Universal Championship match between Brock Lesnar and Seth Rollins.

WWE has promoted a lot of firsts for its women's division. WWE rebranded the Divas Division into the Women's Division in 2016 at WrestleMania 32. Following this, it held the first ever Falls Count Anywhere match for the women's division, as well as the first Hell in a Cell match and the first all-woman PPV event with WWE Evolution in 2018.

Every one of those included Charlotte Flair, who has been the face of the WWE women's division since she came up to the main roster from NXT. However, Flair almost didn't take part in this match until midway through the feud.

Becky Lynch won the WWE Royal Rumble this year by eliminating Charlotte Flair to earn her shot at Ronda Rousey and the Raw women's title at WrestleMania 35. However, thanks to her aggressive actions following that event, WWE CEO Vince McMahon's wrestling persona, Mr. McMahon, returned to WWE television to deny her a shot at the title by suspending her, instead inserting Charlotte Flair into the match. Thanks to actions by Rousey following the suspension, Lynch returned and earned her spot back in the match.

Out of all the matches at WrestleMania 35, it was the Raw women's title match that got the most mainstream coverage. Rousey recently turned heel and has started to mock WWE when it comes to tweeting and making videos claiming she is a real fighter and everything else is fake.

Becky Lynch has also been very active on social media, mocking Rousey every chance she gets. In reaction to the news that she would be part of the main event at WrestleMania 35, Lynch also took to Twitter and showed her appreciation to her fans for their support.

As for Flair, she was originally added to the match to give it a true heel for Rousey and Lynch to play off, but then when Rousey turned heel, it made the uphill battle for Lynch even greater for her to overcome.
