There's reportedly plans to debut a new WWE superstar in the near future. His name is a familiar one, and it's rumored that upon his debut, he could possibly be getting a U.S. Title shot -- and a heel turn.

Dominick Mysterio, Rey Mysterio's son, is believed to be one of the next big things in wrestling following years of training under his father. Dropkick DiSKussions reports backstage insiders have been "very happy" with Dominick's development and many feel he's ready to be called up to the big leagues, either on WWE's main roster or on NXT. What's not being discussed, though, is how his character should be handled, and how a heel turn could be the best thing going for him.

Dominick has already gotten some screen time on Raw and SmackDown, making appearances alongside his father during matches and promos. He has mostly been on hand to lend his father emotional support, but he did get down and dirty with some in-ring work last year during Rey's feud with Brock Lesnar. Dominick even got to hit a 619 with his dad and a top-rope splash on "The Beast" during their match at Survivor Series.

Rey has credited his son for keeping him in the fight throughout the last year and not letting him retire. The connection between the two of them is a genuine one, formed by blood -- and as the WWE Universe knows, that is the perfect recipe for an on-screen feud.

The company should have turned Dominick heel way back in 2005 during Rey's ladder match against Eddie Guerrero at SummerSlam. In kayfabe, the men were battling for custody of Dominick, who was 7 years old at the time. At one point during the match, Dominick pushed over a ladder Guerrero was standing on and stopped him from grabbing the custody papers. How amazingly evil would it have been to see Dominick turn the tables and do this to Rey instead? A son betraying a father would have been a heel turn of monumental proportions.

Now fast-forward to 2020. What better way to get Dominick into the business than by having him feud with the one person who knows him the best -- his dad. It would likely mean the world to Rey, especially if it gave him the chance to give back by letting Dominick go over. They could even do some sort of retirement match once it comes time for Rey to step down.

There had been rumors of inserting Dominick into a possible feud with Andrade at WrestleMania 36, either in a singles match for the U.S. title, or a tag match featuring him and his father locking up against Andrade and Angel Garza. There was speculation that Andrade could be dropping the belt, either to Dominick or Rey, thus planting the first seeds of war between the two. While this storyline could still happen, with Andrade unable to compete at WrestleMania, at best it will have to be delayed until some point farther off in the future.

Dominick may still be "green" in the sport of wrestling, but he's got it in his blood. Multi-generational stars have grown into phenoms in WWE and elsewhere, like The Rock, Randy Orton, Roman Reigns and Bray Wyatt -- all carrying the torch for their wrestling families.

While the main roster would be great for Dominick, especially if he were to turn heel, a run in NXT wouldn't be out of the question either. Some of WWE's biggest superstars got their start in Orlando and it would be a great place for him to hone his craft. Rey could even go down there with him and help elevate the brand in the same way that Finn Balor and Charlotte Flair have recently. With NXT now airing on USA every Wednesday, a Mysterio family feud/storyline could wind up attracting a lot of eyes.

Wherever he lands, Dominick will be able to carve out his own path in the wrestling business while also being able to catapult off the success of his father, much like Orton did when he started. The sky's the limit for the young man. It's just a matter of time before he starts following in his father's footsteps.
