WWE Superstar Johnny Gargano Becomes The Wolverine at NXT TakeOver

The main event of WWE's NXT TakeOver: Toronto, saw NXT Champion Adam Cole defend his title against Johnny Gargano in a 2-out-of-3 Falls Match. With the match taking place in Toronto, Canada, Gargano chose to wear the yellow-and-blue of Canada's own Wolverine as his ring gear.

The heated rivalry between Cole and Gargano coincidentally began with a 2-out-of-3 Falls Match at NXT TakeOver: New York, for the vacated NXT Title. Gargano is known for donning comic book-inspired ring gear for NXT TakeOver events, and TakeOver: Toronto was no different. As he made his way down to the ring, Gargano's ring gear and color scheme matched that of the X-Men's Wolverine.

The top Gargano wore to the ring featured three slash marks on the yellow chest, representing the three Adamantium blades that pop out of Wolverine's fists. The shoulder area is covered in light blue, and the yellow-and-blue color scheme continues on Gargano's trunks and boots.

Gargano shocked the Toronto crowd by getting himself disqualified while using a steel chair to pummel Cole. The second fall switched to a Street Fight, with Gargano coming up as the victor. The third and final fall took place inside a steel cage surrounded by weapons and tables, with barbed wire lining its top.

Of course, the match came to a hair-raising conclusion with both men standing atop the steel cage. As Gargano tried to rip Cole's head open with a piece of barbed wire, both contestants fell through a stack of tables in the middle of the ring. Just as it seemed neither wrestler would recover from such a fall, Cole was able to roll over and plant an arm on Gargano to retain the NXT Title.
