WWE's Johnny Gargano Suits Up as Tony Stark's Iron Man for NXT TakeOver

The main event of WWE's TakeOver: New York features Johnny Gargano taking on Adam Cole in a 2-out-of-3 Falls Match for the vacated NXT Title. Former champion Tommaso Ciampa -- Gargano's former tag team partner -- was slated to face Gargano in the main event, but was forced to relinquish the NXT Title due to a neck injury.

Gargano is known for donning comic book-inspired ring gear for NXT TakeOver events, and TakeOver: New York is no different. As he made his way down to the ring, Gargano's ring gear and color scheme matched that of Robert Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark, aka Iron Man, from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

As you can see above, Gargano's ring trunks and vest are decked out in Iron Man's iconic red-and-gold colors. Also, Gargano's signature emoji face takes up the front of the vest, with the Iron Man arc reactor resting as the open left eye. His wrestling boots are red-and-gold as well to complete the MCU look.

The New York crowd was on their feet throughout the 2-out-of-3 Falls Match, as Gargano and Cole each won a fall, meaning the third fall would crown a new NXT champion. Gargano was able to weather interference from the rest of the members of the Undisputed ERA to make Cole tap out, thus finally winning the NXT Title for the very first time. He celebrated with his wife and NXT star, Candice LeRae, and Ciampa at the top of the ramp to close out TakeOver: New York.
