Vince McMahon is considered one of the world's most intrepid and genius businessmen. He's seen as a media tycoon the way he's turned WWE into a global product, not just on TV but also as a live show and digital content producer. More so, he's helped create Hollywood stars like the Rock, Dave Bautista and John Cena, and his influence in pop culture has been pronounced since he took control of his character as owner of the company on TV in the mid-'90s.

But as the years rolled by, even though Vince is less on television and more in a creative role, one can still see his stamp on arcs and storylines. However, courtesy of VICE TV's Dark Side of the Ring and recent political developments regarding WWE, one has to wonder how powerful the McMahon family really is.

In Dark Side of the Ring's latest episode on Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka, it dives into the death of his ex, Nancy Argentino, in 1983. On May 10, after Snuka beat José Estrada at a WWF TV taping in Allentown, Pennsylvania, he returned to the George Washington Motor Lodge and would call for an ambulance for a woozy and almost non-responsive Nancy. Eventually, after being taken to Allentown's Sacred Heart Medical Center, she passed away due to head injuries.

The episode reveals that while Snuka was never charged, the coroner's report stated her damage seemed to be that of someone who was domestically abused. The findings of the report weren't public which stated the incident should be treated as a homicide. No charges were laid and Snuka went about his career. The episode reveals thanks to Snuka's ex-wife, Carole, Vince came down to Allentown and held a meeting with authorities, which seems to enable Snuka to leave a free man.

Theorists believe there was a conspiracy not to investigate the veracity of Snuka's claims that Nancy hit her head at the side of the road after a stop to urinate. In the piece, Sam Fatu, Snuka's colleague and close friend, admits he rode with them and that never happened, so it automatically places Snuka's alibi into disrepute. To make matters worse, the authorities interviewed in the piece seemingly didn't factor the coroner's report into any decision or later interviews where Snuka had conflicting stories about the incident and Fatu being present. This makes one wonder what really happened in that meeting. After the case was reopened and the report came out in the open, Snuka was arrested and charged with third-degree murder and involuntary manslaughter in 2015. The charges were dismissed as he was deemed mentally unfit to stand trial in January 2017 and died days later, but Nancy's family remains curious about why this case was treated so casually decades before.

No one's saying Vince did anything but the fact he had a meeting, got his prized asset off the hook and then the case was quickly buried is disturbing. Nancy was tasked with keeping an eye on Snuka, not just as a girlfriend but as Vince's babysitter, so the fact he washed his hands of her and didn't contact the family has many thinking maybe it was guilt over hiding something. This situation has left many believing that Vince's influence could play into the idea of the one percent.

Coincidentally, last week, on the day Linda McMahon, Vince's wife and chair of pro-Trump super PAC America First Action, commits to spending $18.5 million on advertisements supporting Donald Trump's campaign in Florida, the state's Republican governor Ron DeSantis amends the stay-at-home order which now allows WWE to operate as an essential service. The company can film live television shows once they're closed to the public, but many questioned the reason behind pro-wrestling being given this pass. There isn't any money being made or necessary goods traded, so it's hard to understand how this is in line with groceries, gas stations and such.

What also has folks concerned is WWE had its first employee, reported to be part of its on-screen talent, test positive for the coronavirus, days after recording live shows. So critics are asking how could operations continue if there was potential exposure and furthermore, how could DeSantis defend his executive order by saying “people are chomping at the bit” for new entertainment. They just don't see how a potential health risk to other athletes and also, something that can't stimulate the economy in terms of making money be deemed necessary.

Scrutiny has been heightened with Vince also being part of Trump's consultation unit who are looking at how to kickstart the American economy post-COVID-19. Some believe it's a political favor being rewarded and backs being scratched. Trump's hotels have hosted Wrestlemania events, after all, and the U.S. president himself has been part of programming, capped by the "Battle of the Billionaires" head-shaving match in 2007's WrestleMania. Critics believe Vince has leveraged this friendship, not to mention Linda's work with the Trump administration, to benefit the company.

Interestingly enough, this prevents WWE from breaching its contract with Fox for live airings of SmackDown, so again it seems this entire move hasn't just saved Vince money, it also allows a network that at times has been deemed Pro-Trump to host one of its flagship programs. It's very intriguing to see all of these things happening within a week, but again, it speaks to Vince as a shrewd businessmen with the right circle of comrades. After all, not anyone can host something like Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia so you know the strength of Vince's company and his family's brand. Time and time again, the McMahons continue to show smart business acumen, and whether nor not you like how they operate, clearly they are one of the most powerful business families in the world.
