WWE and Shane McMahon have parted ways.

Reports from various outlets recently surfaced suggesting McMahon was on the outs with the WWE creative team following his return at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view on Jan. 29, where he was instrumental in the last-minute plans to the men's over-the-top-rope battle royal match. His departure from the company was confirmed by Wrestling Observer Newsletter's Dave Meltzer.

Shane McMahon is not only a professional wrestler in his own right but the son of WWE Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Vince McMahon. Shane's first steps into the family business saw him acting as a referee in the late 1980s, and he notably helped launch WWF.com in 1997.

In '98, McMahon became an on-screen character and was a frequent ally and enemy of his father in various storylines. The two even had a standout match at WrestleMania X-Seven, which helped pave the way for the Invasion/Alliance angle that saw the younger McMahon "buy" WCW and use it to feud with the Superstars of WWE.

After a feud with the then-recently unmasked Kane and a brief hiatus, McMahon teamed with his father for an angle with D-Generation X, then another with Bobby Lashley and finally one with Legacy. In 2009, McMahon left WWE on his own terms and then returned in 2016, first as the commissioner of SmackDown and then as a performer.
