WWE Superstar Bayley has sustained an injury that will put her out of action for approximately nine months.

WWE.com announced Bayley's injury occurred while she was training for her "I Quit Match" against WWE SmackDown Women's Champion Bianca Belair, set to take place at Money in the Bank later this month. "A suitable replacement for the SmackDown Women's Title Match will be announced tonight on FOX," the company's statement reads.

While WWE's statement was brief, more news has begun to trickle out regarding Bayley's injury. "We're told the Bayley injury happened during the mandatory 'return to road' training session at the WWE Performance Center while doing chain wrestling with another Superstar," Fightful's Sean Ross Sapp reports. "It was referred to as a freak accident." PWInsider.com's Mike Johnson also reports Bayley's injury is a torn ACL.

Bayley has been feuding with Belair ever since the latter defeated Sasha Banks to win the SmackDown Women's Title at April's WrestleMania. Belair was victorious against Bayley at WrestleMania Backlash the following month, and retained her title again at Hell in a Cell in June.

While another opponent will be selected on the next episode of SmackDown to compete against Bianca Belair at Money in the Bank, the Peacock/WWE Network program will also feature a Money in the Bank match consisting of Alexa Bliss, Nikki Cross, Asuka, Naomi, Carmella and the returning Zelina Vega, who was released in November 2020.

Money in the Bank airs Sunday, July 18 at 8 p.m. ET on Peacock in the United States and WWE Network everywhere else.
