WWE ended live events and relocated RawSmackDownNXT and WWE Network tapings to the Performance Center in the spring of 2020 due to the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. SummerSlam weekend of the same year marked the introduction of the WWE ThunderDome, a new state-of-the-art fan virtual experience in Orlando's Amway Center that allowed fans to participate from the comfort of their homes.

The ThunderDome was relocated from the Amway Center to Tropicana Field in Tampa Bay with the Dec. 11 edition of SmackDown. The arena was moved once again to its current home in Tampa's Yuengling Center.
