The holiday weekend was merry for WarnerMedia and the Walt Disney Company, as Wonder Woman 1984 drove a one-day record for downloads of HBO Max, and Pixar's Soul spurred a boost in Disney+  downloads around the world.

According to Bloomberg, market research firm Apptopia reported that HBO Max had 244,000 downloads of its app on Dec. 27 and totaled 554,000 over Dec. 25-27. Another market research firm, Sensor Tower, reported 2.3 million Disney+ mobile apps installed worldwide over the same period.

Apptopia said this brings HBO Max's total number of mobile users close to 12 million. For Disney+, that was a 28 percent increase in mobile app downloads over the previous weekend.

Soul generated $7.6 million at the box office in its China opening and other overseas markets, even as it was released Christmas Day on Disney+. WW84, also released on Christmas Day, pulled in $16.7 million in U.S. theaters from Friday through Sunday. AT&T revealed that almost half of the HBO Max subscribers through WarnerMedia saw WW84 on Christmas.

HBO Max, available only to U.S. customers, has about 12.6 million accounts activated by HBO subscribers. Disney+, available worldwide, has 87 million subscribers. Sensor Tower and Apptopia only keep count of mobile app downloads.
