Write N' Fight's Confusing and Buggy History

Write N' Fight suffered development delays; one of the trailers on its Steam store page even promises a fall 2021 release date. The game also launched in a completely broken state, a problem the game's developer states was caused by the game being "incorrectly packaged" when it was uploaded to Steam rather than an issue with the actual code. This poor packaging caused severe and game-breaking bugs, often crashing the game outright before players had gotten a chance to even start up a fight.

Two of the most popular negative reviews have gotten a direct developer response, where they urge players not to judge the game too quickly, as a patch is coming soon to fix the issues. As of the writing of this article, Write N' Fight sits at a mostly negative review status on Steam, and it remains to be seen if these patches will be able to save the game. It's also unclear if the game plans to include further updates, such as expanding its roster to include female greats like Jane Austen or Toni Morrison or modern writers like Brandon Sanderson and George R.R. Martin.

The trailers for Write N' Fight also had their share of problems. Most glaringly, many of these videos had clearly visible debug information, usually in the top left corner. The majority of the text read "REFLECTION CAPTURE NEEDS TO BE REBUILT (1 unbuilt)," while others stated things like "LIGHTING NEEDS TO BE REBUILT (50 unbuilt)" and "Rollback Frames: 2," sometimes all at once. The trailer also featured a mysterious character identified only as Latin American Author, who appeared as a black-haired and bearded man wearing a white sleeveless shirt and matching white pants.

Write N' Fight is available now on Steam for $12.99, and customers can get an introductory offer of 40% off until Aug. 29, 2022. While the developer has promised to fix the game's extreme bugs, there is no indication that it has solved the problems at the time of this writing.
