Wrath of Man, the latest Guy Ritchie movie starring Jason Statham, opened to solid box office figures over the weekend.

According to Deadline, Wrath of Man opened to $8 million from 2,875 locations, an improvement over the $6.8 million bow of recent R-rated action movie Nobody. It's the third-largest domestic opening weekend for an R-rated movie since the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic began, only behind the debuts of Mortal Kombat and Demon Slayer: Mugen Train.

Compared to past films from its director and star, Wrath of Man opened lower than the $10.6 million opening weekend of Ritchie's The Gentleman. However, Wrath of Man did score a bigger opening than several prior Statham vehicles, such as the $7.6 million bow of Mechanic: Resurrection and the $7 million debut of Parker.

"This was a smart acquisition by MGM. Getting to work with Bill Block and Miramax was great. They were very supportive of the marketing and dating strategy. We took advantage of the Mother's Day weekend as soon as Black Widow moved," said United Artists Releasing President Erik Loomis. "Gerry Rich and the marketing team created a super smart and innovative campaign, laser-focused and efficient, with a trailer launch only six weeks out. [Ritchie] supported the plan and the marketing team every step of the way, and delivered a solid movie, very playable to his audience."

Directed and co-written by Guy Ritchie, Wrath of Man stars Jason Statham, Holt McCallany, Jeffrey Donovan, Josh Hartnett, Laz Alonzo, Raúl Castillo, Deobia Oparei, Eddie Marsan and Scott Eastwood. The film is now playing in theaters.
