WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Web of Venom: Wraith #1 by Donny Cates, Guiu Villanova, Dean White and VC's Clayton Cowles, on sale now.

Venom is about to face his next major threat in Venom Beyond, as a new force of evil is coming, and Eddie Brock just learned it might rival the power of Knull.

This warning came from Wraith, a character who played a large role in Annihilation: Conquest in 2007 and Guardians of the Galaxy in 2019. However, the warning also concluded with the apparent death of Wraith.

Wraith has more in common with Venom than most people might have known. The character made his first appearance in 2007's Annihilation: Conquest: Wraith by Javier Grillo-Marxuach, Kyle Hotz, Gina Going-Raney, and VC's Cory Petit. Wraith is a Kree who defeated a hoard of Phalanx soldiers in this first appearance.

This appearance took place after The Annihilation War. Wraith returned to Hala, the Kree homeworld, with murder on his mind. What he found was a planet conquered by the Phalanx. Wraith ended up in the war against the Phalanx and learned that Ronan was now serving the techno-organic warriors. It was Ronan who first named him Wraith, saying he can't be Kree because they know pain and feel, but he is "a ghost ... a wraith."

Wraith first appearance

Wraith told Ronan his origin. His father was a brilliant Kree scientist named Sin-Del, who created a power source strong enough to light the entire galaxy. As a result, the Kree Empire banned his work. Sim-Del sought exile on a remote planet and mastered the power source, turning the planet into a paradise for him and his family to live. However, knowing Sim-Del could help the entire universe, the Kree Empire sent a Death Squad led by a man with a Signet Ring, who killed Wraith's parents. Wraith returned to Hala to kill the man with the Signet Ring.

The space ship Wraith escaped on as a child drifted into a wormhole and ended up in the Exoteric Latitude, the home of the Nameless. Many previous explorers from the Kree Empire drifted into the Exoteric Latitude for eons, and an invasive species known as the Exolon entered their bodies. These parasitic beings invaded the body of the boy, giving him strength, healing, immortality, and the ability to summon the Exolon to swarm. Unlike the other members of the Nameless, Wraith kept his memories and escaped to seek vengeance. Instead, he joined the Kree Empire in the war against the Phalanx in Annihilation: Conquest.

After the Kree Empire brought down the Phalanx, Wraith moved on. His next stop was in the pages of Guardians of the Galaxy, where Eros promised him information about Knull, the Exolon God, so that Wraith could get the Exolons out of his body. He joined the Dark Guardians as one of the few non-villains in the group. Thanos uploaded a copy of his mind into another body in preparation for his death. Their mission was to find Gamora, who they believed Thanos planned to use as his next body. It was all a ruse, as Hera revealed Eros was Thanos's host body. Despite this, Wraith received the information he needed to find Knull.

Wraith sees the light

This is where Web of Venom: Wraith picks. The information Eros gave him had two sets of coordinates and unbreakable encryption. He was first led back to Hala, where he learned his father found something that scared him — a great light. Wraith then went to the second coordinates — Klyntar, the home of the symbiotes, and Knull. It was here he met the Exolon God. However, Knull was unfamiliar with the term Exolon. Wraith learned the Exoteric Latitude was where Knull dumped his "failed experiments." Knull said Wraith was born from his trash.

It was at that point Knull ripped the symbiote from Wraith and sent him back into space to die. However, before this happened, he witnessed the light that scared his father so much. There was also a voice, one that scares even the darkness. That is when Wraith sought out a face and name he saw in his visions — Eddie Brock. With one last set of coordinates, Wraith went to Earth to warn Venom that Knull's shadow, his opposite, is coming. And with that, Wraith died.
