Employees at Wizards of the Coast, famed for publishing tabletop games like Dungeons & Dragons and Magic: The Gathering, have staged a walkout in response to its parent company's "lackluster" answer to the dismantling of Roe v Wade.In a statement published to a brand new Twitter account, Wizards for Justice, employees lambasted its parent company, Hasbro, for a poor response to the ramifications of the Supreme Court ruling. Apparently, the company sent out an email to staff which prompted the response. "We, as employees of Wizards of the Coast, are frustrated, disappointed, and completely dissatisfied with Hasbro's out of touch, tone-deaf, and lackluster response to Friday's Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe vs. Wade," it said. "This decision, that healthcare for marginalized individuals is a privilege based on location and means, violates basic human rights."RELATED: PlayStation Boss Talks Abortion Rights and His Cats' Birthdays in Controversial Staff Email

As a result of what employees feel is a mishandling of the situation, Wizards for Justice announced its encouragement for employees to walk out in protest and take a day to "reflect" on the situation. "On Wednesday, June 29th all employees are encouraged to take a day to reflect, nurture mental health, and show solidarity that Hasbro will not," it said. "Decisions like this cause suffering and it's this that we ask, on the same day, Hasbro leadership to reflect on. Particularly, how messaging like this violates and stands in the face of a diverse and inclusive workforce and creates yet another burden for already marginalized people."

Wizards for Justice continued, stating its belief that "at a bare minimum," companies should express their solidarity with employees and offer the same benefits and financial assistance promised by several organizations in the wake of the decision -- namely, an offer to cover travel expenses and time off for seeking reproductive care out of state. "Any messaging that suggests or implies that there are other, valid, opinions and approaches to this further marginalization of already at risk groups, on their bodily autonomy is unnecessary, invalid, and damaging," it wrote. "Such messaging only seeks to protect and validate those that seek to control, and is the wrong direction for any organization with as diverse a customer base as ours."

Wizards of the Coast has previously shown its support for multiple diverse groups, such as with a special Pride-themed Magic: The Gathering card collection this June called Pride Across the Multiverse. Wizards of the Coast isn't the first company within the gaming industry to express support for abortion rights since the Supreme Court's decision Friday. Following the leaked decision in May, Insomniac and Sony donated $50k to abortion rights groups after PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan sent out a company-wide email that many found tone-deaf. On Friday, shortly after the decision was announced, Insomniac, Ubisoft and more expressed support for those soon to be impacted by the trigger laws in their states.
