The final years of Fox's X-Men movie franchise went out with a whimper instead of a bang. Nevertheless, there were still some great moments that reminded audiences why these films have been such a fan favorite for over a decade. A good example of this can be seen in Dark Phoenix. During one scene, Michael Fassbender's Magneto puts his powers on full display in a way that is as impressive as it is utterly terrifying.

Dark Phoenix was the last film in the Fox X-Men universe to feature the core team first introduced in X-Men: First Class. One of the standouts of the movie was Fassbender's turn as the master of magnetism. During his time as the character, audiences explored his slow turn to villainy and constant quest to find peace, only for it to always end in tragedy. In that time, his power to control metal continues to grow until he is one of the most capable mutants in the franchise. This all culminates in his final display of power in Dark Phoenix, which is not as graphic as the Deadpool films but is still equally violent.

During the movie, Jean Grey, possessed by the Phoenix Force, is stalked by an alien species known as the D'Bari. These aliens will stop at nothing to get to her and steal her power, but Magneto and the X-Men stand in their way. As his allies are separated, Magneto is left alone in the train car transporting them to a containment facility. Against multiple foes, Magneto uses his abilities to strangle the aliens with handcuffs and fling pieces of metal into their stomachs and necks, killing them instantly. What makes the scene so intense is the overall ease with which he uses his powers. While he always had a degree of finesse in using his abilities, Dark Phoenix turns Magneto into something of a martial artist with his magnetic powers.

His battle concludes when Storm pushes the remaining D'Bari into a neighboring train car. With one hand, Magneto crushes the massive object and tosses it off the track with the flick of his wrist. In First Class, Eric struggled to turn a satellite or lift a submarine, but by Dark Phoenix, the true capabilities of his powers are shown in full effect. He later backs this up by controlling an arsenal of weapons to fire simultaneously on the D'Bari leader, Vuk, without moving a muscle in a clever callback to the first X-Men film. While his attempt failed, it shows that it takes the power of a near-God to beat him.

Eric always showed immense displays of strength in the earlier films, including him relocating the Golden Gate Bridge in X-Men: The Last Stand. However, the scariest thing he has done with his abilities was pulling the iron out of a person in X2: X-Men United. While Dark Phoenix was his final appearance in the universe, he shows why he is still someone to be feared even 40 years, in canon, after First Class.

Magneto is one of the most intimidating and powerful characters in the Marvel Universe. Sadly, it's unlikely Disney will show him use his powers in such a violent way when he eventually joins the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Thankfully, Fassbender's deadly massacre in Dark Phoenix serves as a perfect foundation for how powerful and scary he should be when he finally does reappear on the big screen.
