There is a huge array of weapons to choose from in Fallout 4. Whether it be a rifle, shotgun, laser, melee, or one of the more unconventional weapons, like Kremvh's Tooth or the Alien Blaster, there's plenty of choice for players as to how to outfit themselves.

There are certain weapons, however, that are best left where they are found. These weapons take up too much room in the inventory, are awkward or unsatisfying to use, or simply don't do enough damage to be worthwhile using. While all weapons can be improved by perks, attributes and modding, not even those can save the worst Fallout 4 has to offer.

10 The Gamma Gun Is Only Really Effective Against Humans

fallout 4 gamma gun

The idea of the Gamma Gun is that the player shoots gamma rounds to irradiate enemies, but it's just not as satisfying to inflict radiation on an enemy when the player can blow their heads or limbs off with a Combat Rifle, for example. The Gamma Gun is best used against humans, as a lot of enemies throughout the Commonwealth are immune to radiation damage, not least of all Ghouls, so it's more practical to use a weapon that's effective against all enemy types instead of switching the Gamma Gun in and out.

9 Pipe Weapons Are Only Useful As A Last Resort

fallout 4 pipe rifle

Pipe weapons are available from the start of the game. While they're fine for the beginning stages, as more and more weapons become available it gets kind of unnecessary to hang onto them. There are weapons that do much more damage and are available even earlier than pipe guns, such as the 10mm Pistol, the first gun the game gives the player. If a pipe weapon is in the inventory at all it's best used only as a last resort.

8 The Syringer Isn't Worth The Time And Effort

fallout 4 syringer

Players need to make their own ammo to use the Syringer, which, as the name implies, fires syringes filled with different liquids at a target. There are several ammo and weapon modifications for the Syringer that can make it inflict various debuffs. While the idea sounds fine on paper, in practice it's easier and more fun to just use a weapon that deals heavy damage instead of using the Syringer to weaken the enemy and switching to another weapon to actually finish them off.

7 The Railway Rifle Is Impractical Due To Its Scarcity Of Ammo

While the Railyway Rifle does 100 damage per shot, the Railway Spikes it uses as ammo are so scarce that more often than not it's sitting in the inventory going unused and taking up a good chunk of space.

When ammo for the weapon is finally found, it's not even worth bothering putting the Railway Rifle on the Wheel Menu as it will inevitably run out of ammo. It's better to use a weapon that does less damage but that takes commonly found ammo, if only to save time messing around in menus switching weapons in and out.

6 The Boxing Glove Isn't A Weapon But A Piece Of Protective Gear

fallout 4 boxing glove

Given that boxing gloves were designed to lessen the blows of fists, it makes sense that the unarmed weapon does only 9 points of damage per attack. In a game where the aim is to kill monsters and other humans, it seems a little strange to use something that would do less damage than a fist. Knuckles do more damage than the Boxing Glove, weigh half as much, and as their purpose is to inflict damage. They also just feel more satisfying to use.

5 The Submachine Gun Is A Waste Of Space

fallout 4 submachine gun

Heavy recoil and low damage and accuracy make the Submachine Gun a waste of inventory space. There are a range of modifications that can be applied to it, but none of them are game changing. The Submachine Gun also takes .45 caliber ammo, which is harder to find and more expensive than .38 caliber ammo, and given the weapon has a fire rate of 127, it's not the best option in terms of automatic weapons. A fully upgraded automatic Pipe Rifle has better range and accuracy while weighing much less.

4 The Rolling Pin Belongs In The Kitchen

fallout 4 rolling pin

With its short range, low damage, and limited modding options, the Rolling Pin is one of the most useless melee weapons in Fallout 4. On top of that, it's probably the least cool weapon in the entire game.

When there are melee weapons with blades, rotating saws, and flamethrowers attached that do all kinds of blood-curdling damage, hitting someone or something over the head with a rolling pin seems like a waste. This one's best left in the kitchen.

3 The Acid Soaker Isn't Worth The Nuka-Cade Tickets

fallout 4 acid soaker

The Acid Soaker can be obtained in the Nuka-World DLC. Making the ammo for it costs 20 Acid, 8 Glass, and 2 Adhesive, all after buying the weapon itself for 6250 Nuka-Cade Tickets. Considering all the effort it takes to obtain the Acid Soaker, one might think it was at least a half-decent weapon. Unfortunately, while it is unique, it's not worth trying to get when there are so many better weapons to choose from. Its damage and range are poor, meaning the player has to get up close to enemies to spray them with acid, and even then the damage it does is woefully low.

2 The Pool Cue Is Slow And Ineffective

fallout 4 pool cue

The Pool Cue does 13 damage, has no special effects, and is slow to use. Up against bigger creatures like Super Mutants, the Pool Cue isn't going to cut it, and even against Ghouls and Vermin it won't be very effective. There are only two mods that can be applied to the Pool Cue, Barbed and Sharp, but even with these upgrades it remains ineffective and unsatisfying to use. Even though it only weighs 1 lb, it's not worth keeping in the inventory.

1 The Flare Gun Is Feeble And Frustrating To Use

fallout 4 flare gun

The Flare Gun can only fire one flare at a time, which wouldn't be so bad if it did a lot of damage, but it only does 10 damage per shot. It also requires 40 Action Points in V.A.T.S., giving it just 0.25 damage per Action Point. Hitting moving targets with just a single shot means lots of ducking and weaving while the gun reloads, which simply isn't fun. Perhaps the worst things about the Flare Gun are that the only perk that applies to it is the Gunbasher perk and the fact that it cannot it be modified.
