Some supernatural anime just don't have the charm, atmosphere, or scares to result in a high score from reviewers. On MyAnimeList, there are 1,440 supernatural anime as of this article's release— and while a couple hundred have no user scores at all, plenty of anime in this genre have scored under a 5 on the 10 point scale.
Regardless of how an anime was received critically, these are the results of a majority scoring system participated in by users of MyAnimeList only. There seems to be a trend with many of these low-rated anime having episodes that only last three or four minutes. In this case, less apparently isn't more for many of these reviewers.
10 Taishou Mebiusline: Chicchai-San (4.72)
Taishou Mebiuslin: Chicchai-san is based on a historical, supernatural visual novel with each of its 12 episodes only lasting three minutes. The show follows Hiiragi Kyouichirou, who journeys to Tokyo to attend university and carries his family's sword for protection. However, when he arrives, he is forced into a plot by the Imperial army. The show only received a 4.72 rating based on 2,700 users' scores.
9 Vampire Wars (4.68)
Also listed as one of the worst vampire anime (ranking the number two lowest-rated as of that list), Vampire Wars is 55-minute OVA about French secret service agent Monsieur Lassar investigating two mysterious attacks he believes are related. Teaming up with international terrorist Kousaburo Kuki, the two stumble upon film star Lamia Vindaw and a vampire cult, who may be involved.
This supernatural anime's score went down a little after the vampire list came out, now sitting at a 4.68 score on MyAnimeList according to the combined ratings of 1,676 users. This OVA is based on one of the eleven books in a series and produced by Toei Animation.
8 The Tiny One Makes It Big (4.67)
The Tiny One Makes It Big, or Issunboushi No Shusse in the original Japanese, is an anime short and was made way back in 1929. This is a silent (barring background music), black-and-white animation, only lasting one minute. It's about a small demon doing something big. It sits at a review score of 4.67 based on 619 users' scores, with apparently very little understanding giving to the short's age.
7 The World YAMIZUKAN (4.67)
The World YAMIZUKAN is a 13 episode anime lasting four minutes per episode. Bizarre stories are contained within a strange encyclopedia hidden within a decrepit building. The characters in these stories often meet gruesome ends.
Some of the admittedly interesting sounding stories included in the MyAnimeList description feature a man searching for his adulterous wife who instead finds otherworldly visitors and a boy befriending a sinister snowman. The series holds a score of 4.67 as rated by 5,499 users.
6 Ankoku Shinwa (4.22)
Ankuku Shinwa, synonymous with The Dark Myth in English, is a two-episode 50 minute OVA. This supernatural horror story is about the descendants of Japan's first inhabitants who are preparing to face off against the currently slumbering God of Darkness Susanoah-oh. Together, they must fight the spirits of hell and find the chosen boy who is destined to take on the chaotic might of the Gods. This is rated a 4.22 based on the scores of 789 users.
5 Bloody Night (3.94)
Bloody Night is a five-minute short about a girl walking alone in an alley, which never seems to end well. In this case, a red monster begins to chase the protagonist in this silent claymation film.

The most recent anime on this list, Ninja Girl Collection is a 13 episode series featuring a group of ninjas called the "Toukeshuu." Their mission is to put an end to "darkness" in modern-day Tokyo. They plan on fighting the darkness by implementing ancient techniques learned from previous generations. Each episode is only four minutes long. The overall score is a 3.91 on MyAnimeList based on the scores of 1,503 users.

Despite being called a trailer, Dead Girl Trailer previews a movie that doesn't exist. It was created for a fake trailer contest in Japan.

Combining the mystery, comedy, and supernatural genres, Vampire Holmes is about a vampire hunter version of detective Holmes. The 12 three-minute episodes of the series follow the adventures of Holmes and Hudson after the Metropolitan Police of London covertly hires them to investigate vampires.
Vampire Holmes is currently the lowest-rated supernatural anime on MyAnime List with a score of 3.38 based on the scores of 5,391 users. This may be in part because this version of Holmes is a failure of a detective who has trouble solving cases and gets scared by his landlady.
