Villains are oftentimes characters viewers love to hate. Light Yagami's deviousness drew people toward Death Note while Madara Uchiha had fans itching for Naruto Shippuden's Fourth Great Ninja War. Characters like these are written so incredibly well that it's nearly impossible not to simultaneously hate and root for them.

Meanwhile, some characters exist who make viewers wish their stories would just come to an end. Their actions, attitudes, and motives make them prime targets for hatred. While some negative reputations are entirely unearned — like Sakura from Naruto — the hatred others amass is unanimously well-deserved.

Idate Morino was a former Konohagakure genin and the brother of Ibiki, commander of the village's Interrogation Force. Idate abandoned Konoha after Ibiki failed him during the chunin exam. he fled for Amegakure before arriving in the Land of Tea to be taken in by the Wasabi family.

As a Leaf shinobi, Idate stole village secrets to sell them to Amegakure for a higher rank because he was angry at failing the chunin exam. He committed theft and treason against the village, attempted robbing the Wasabi family head, and left Ibiki for dead. During his race to the Todoroki Shrine, he often complained and admitted he didn't care if Team 7 died while protecting him.

9 Sasame Sold Out Naruto & Sakura For The Chance To See Arashi

Sasame was a kunoichi from the dwindling Fuma clan who met Naruto, Sakura, and Jiraiya while searching for her cousin Arashi near Orochimaru's lair. The group saved her from an assassination attempt before assisting her to locate her cousin.

Sasame attempted to achieve this goal by any means necessary. She orchestrated the assassination attempt in an effort to gain Jiraiya's team's trust. After leading them to Orochimaru's lair, she drugged them with sleeping agents to trade their lives for her cousins. Luckily, Jiraiya's team were Leaf-trained shinobi who wouldn't fall for such obvious tactics.

8 Tiger-Mizuki Was A Outdated Villain With An Uninteresting Backstory

Mizuki was a Konohagakure chunin who convinced Naruto to steal the Scroll of Sealing. After being beaten by Naruto's shadow clones, Mizuki was incarcerated in Konoha's correctional facility. He broke out to take revenge against Naruto and Iruka and intended to overpower them with help from Orochimaru's Tiger-Strength Potion.

Most viewers would agree that Tiger-Mizuki was better left confined in his cage. His obsession with destroying Iruka was worn-out by the time he resurfaced, he failed to achieve anything meaningful during his escape, and his constant whining and Orochimaru-worship got old pretty quickly. He also physically and mentally abused Tsubaki, his former lover.

7 Karashi Was A Coward Who Helped Destroy A Village

Karashi was Sansho's son and successor to her Curry of Life shop. He helped heal Rock Lee after he attempted a 100-mile run that nearly killed him. Karashi joined the Kurosuki family, a group of thugs, shortly afterward. He helped them take over the Katabami Gold Mine and fought against Naruto and Team Guy before changing his ways — but not before changing sides. Multiple times.

Karashi proved his fickle resolve after he joined Raiga in burying several villagers alive. He also plotted to kill Rock Lee to earn praise from the Kurosuki family. When this failed, he blamed Team Guy for Ranmaru's death, then tried to flee despite owing Rock Lee a life debt. Clearly, Karashi proved he only looked out for himself.

6 Tokichi's Fellow Villagers Happily Condemned Him To Death Without A Trial

Tokichi, aka Sazanami, hailed from a small village near Konohagakure. While Tokichi was working as a swordsmith during the village's festival, the bandit Gosunkugi murdered a family near his shop. Convinced that Tokichi was to blame, the villagers ran him out of town before putting out a bounty on his head. Clearly, the townsfolk had never heard of due process.

Without so much as an investigation, they wrongly accused an innocent man and unanimously sentenced him to death. After forcing him to live on the run for many years, they organized a man-hunt with the prize of Tokichi's head. Even after Gosunkugi confessed and Tokichi was proved innocent, the villagers begrudgingly welcomed their self-created ex-con back into the village.

5 Lady Toki Devoted Her Life To Avenging Her Family But Endangered The Land They'd Died For

Lady Toki was the daughter of Owashi, daimyo to the Land of Birds, and twin sister to Sagi. When the two were assassinated, Toki assumed Sagi's identity to become the Land of Bird's daimyo. Determined to avenge her family, Toki lived a double life and attempted to expose Moso as their murderer.

By letting grief consume her, Toki put the stability of the Land of Birds at risk. She deceived her nation, failed to protect them from an invader, and lived for years suspecting Moso's true intentions but still failed to act on them. Her birthright was nearly forfeited following her near-assassination attempt, and her inaction almost got her friend Chishima killed.

4 Amachi Shared Orochimaru's Repugnant Disregard For Human Life

Amachi had no regard for human life and saw his test subjects as completely disposable. He forced Isaribi, an innocent young woman, to undergo a transformation that left her permanently disfigured. Amachi then manipulated her into attacking innocent people by promising a cure, but actually planned to dissect her when she no longer proved useful.

3 Akahoshi's Henchmen Helped Murder The Hoshikage & Endanger The Village's Children

Shiso and Yotaka were Hoshigakure shinobi who loyally served Akahoshi. They shared his vision of earning Hoshigakure a spot amongst the Five Great Nations and willingly betrayed the Hoshikage after he ended the village's deadly star training. They followed Akahoshi's every order, albeit with slight reservations, but their reservations didn't excuse what they did.

Shiso and Yotaka assassinated the Third Hoshikage and installed Akahoshi as Hoshigakure's interim leader. They reinstituted the village's star training, despite understanding its fatal repercussions. They kidnaped Sumaru, a child, and attempted to use him as a bargaining chip. When that didn't work, they murdered his mother and blew up the training center with Sumaru inside.

She trusted no one and believed people were tools to be used to revitalize her country's wealth. While fleeing her home, Haruna used children and the elderly as decoys to save her own life.

Haruna forced her friend and bodyguard Kikonojo into battling Ruiga to buy them time, despite knowing he wasn't strong enough. Following his death, she claimed it didn't matter because her life was more important. She also knocked out Hinata Hyuga while the two were pursued by enemy ninja, leaving her unconscious in the woods so she could escape alone

The Ninja Dropouts were a group of rogue shinobi who operated out of the Land of Forests. Each of its four members utilized a unique jutsu to attack and rob families in the surrounding areas. The group was disbanded after Gantetsu, one of its members, joined forces with Naruto to bring their nefarious deeds to an end.

The Ninja Dropouts were responsible for raiding residential homes before massacring every inhabitant. They remorselessly killed children until Gantetsu secretly rescued and raised the orphans on his portion of the group's funds. The Ninja Dropouts killed several police officers, captured Gantetsu, and tortured him to learn the whereabouts of their treasure. All these were truly despicable acts.
