Jujutsu Kaisen is a highly successful Shonen series that recently enjoyed its silver-screen debut with Jujutsu Kaisen 0: The Movie. The anime garners its popularity via its dark tone, moments of light-hearted fun, and introduction of complex characters. However, not all of its characters are as likable as its main cast.

Many of the show's side characters have fans' ire rather than love. Some are pure evil, while others are simply infuriating figures that fans love to hate. Whether they are heroes, villains, or neither, these side characters are the worst and stand in stark contrast to the beloved protagonists.

Some entries in this list are manga spoilers. Those who have yet to catch up with the Jujutsu Kaisen manga, especially the Shibuya Incident Arc onward, may wish to avoid the final three entries.

10 Junpei Yoshino Pities Himself So Much He Falls For Mahito's Trick

Junpei Yoshino cries during Jujutsu Kaisen

Junpei Yoshino is a tragic character, yet fans can't help but think he has a hand in his downfall. He befriends the villainous cursed spirit Mahito to cope with the bullying he suffers at school.

What upsets fans is that Yuji Itadori, the series protagonist, becomes friends with Junpei, too. In the end, Junpei chooses the untrustworthy cursed spirit. As a result, Mahito kills him using his Idle Transfiguration and breaks fans' hearts. Though Junpei may be a fan-favorite JJK character, his gullibility and refusal to choose Yuji makes him among the worst.

9 Momo Nishimiya Wins When She Shouldn't

Momo Nishimiya looking worried in Jujutsu Kaisen's anime

While Momo Nishimiya doesn't technically do anything wrong, she is part of the Kyoto school's plot to kill Yuji. Furthermore, she beat Kugisaki Nobara in the Exchange Event despite not deserving the win. She is woefully underpowered compared to Nobara but has her friends intervene at the last second. Though this is one of the JJK fights that live up to the hype, it ends in frustration.

Fans find her the worst because she doesn't earn her wins or status. Plus, she throws a wrench in one of the main protagonists' progress while also participating in a plot to kill another hero.

8 Kiyotaka Ichiji Just Does What The Higher Ups Tell Him

Kiyotaka Ijichi from Jujutsu Kaisen.

Kiyotaka Ichiji is not evil, but he's far from being one of JJK's best side characters. His problem is his unquestioning loyalty to the jujutsu sorcerer community. He says nothing when the elders send Yuji, Nobara, and Megumi Fushiguro to their deaths in the Cursed Womb when he should have known better.

Furthermore, he's a pushover in most situations. Being a good jujutsu sorcerer necessitates a strong will. Ichiji just can't cut it. He's a poorly written character with a one-dimensional personality and can't stand up for himself.

7 Noritoshi Kamo Thinks He's Better Than His Classmates

Noritoshi Kamo with 'x' mark over his eye in Jujutsu Kaisen.

Noritoshi Kamo is a Kyoto school student who respects important sorcerer houses like the Zenin clan. Thus, he's skewed his perception of other sorcerers. He looks down on most cursed techniques. For example, he's dismissive of Mai and Maki Zenin. However, he likes Megumi because he inherited the coveted Ten Shadows Technique. On top of this, he wants to kill Yuji, as the Kyoto headmaster ordered.

Later, Kamo changes, but as with Mai, fans still aren't ready to accept him. His past behaviors establish him as one of the worst side characters, though he has room to grow.

6 Mai Zenin Has A Terrible Attitude

Jujutsu Kaisen's Mai Zenin frowning against sliding doors.

Mai Zenin is problematic, but much of her attitude is traceable to the Zenin clan's abuse. The Zenin clan is known for its cruelty, misogyny, and classism. They treated Mai's twin, Maki, horribly because she was born without cursed energy. Despite Mai's usefulness, they abuse and criticize her, too.

Unfortunately, Mai projects her anger onto Maki, talking down to her regularly. The sisters have one of the worst relationships in JJK. Mai is rude, self-centered, and cruel, just like the rest of the Zenin clan. Fans find her to be one of the worst characters because of this.

5 Yoshinobu Gakuganji Is A Problematic Community Leader

Yoshinobu Gakuganji is the guitar-wielding headmaster of the Kyoto school who calls for Yuji's execution. Even after saying he would let Yuji live, he instructs his students to try and kill the protagonist and has a hand in the Cursed Womb tragedy.

Gakuganji is a representation of everything wrong with the jujutsu sorcerer community. Gojo hates him because he perpetuates the problems within their society. Fans hate him because he's intolerant of the incredibly well-loved main character and regularly tries to kill him. So, it makes sense why he's one of the most disliked JJK characters.

4 Jogo Is An Infuriating Foe

Jogo is a fire-based curse as hotheaded as the volcano perched upon his dome suggests. He naively assumes he can take on Satoru Gojo, the series' strongest jujutsu sorcerer, alone. Gojo humiliates Jogo, defeating him in a matter of seconds.

While Jogo is supposedly strong, he has yet to show this in the anime. Instead, he runs his mouth and does nothing to back it up. Though Jogo is a powerful main villain, his allies constantly have to save him, and he continues to progress Pseudo-Geto's plot. As a result, fans aren't fond of him.

3 Naobito Zenin Is Abusive And Cruel

Jujutsu Kaisen's Naobito Zenin with sake

Naobito Zenin is the head of the Zenin clan when the show first introduces it and its horrors. He is a drunken, violent brute who instills a culture of cruelty and aggression. Like Gakuganji, Naobito reflects the corruption and evil within the sorcerer community.

Anime fans don't know much about him, as he has yet to feature in the show as much as in the manga. Fans know he has a complicated Cursed Technique called Projection, and he's a problematic figure with many dark secrets in his closet. They also know he's responsible for the Zenin clan's poor behavior, and thus, he's one of the worst characters.

2 Mahito Is A Constant Nuisance

Jujutsu Kaisen's Mahito reclining.

Mahito is a hero killer who enrages many fans when he transforms Junpei into a curse. In the anime, he seems nearly unkillable. He escapes Kento Nanami, a sorcerer near Gojo's level, twice and almost ends Nanami both times, too.

Furthermore, Mahito gets away from Ryomen Sukuna, which seems antithetical to what fans expect of The King of Curses. Sukuna should have been able to cut Mahito down, but Mahito survives. He is among the worst characters for his frustrating elusiveness and crimes against the heroes.

1 Naoya Zenin Is One Of The Few Sorcerers More Cruel Than Naobito

Naoya Zenin is a manga-only figure and takes over as the Zenin clan's head after Naobito's death during the Shibuya Incident. He continues his father's legacy of cruelty and terror.

In many ways, Naoya is worse than Naobito. He's overconfident, narcissistic, and idolizes another villain, Toji Fushiguro. Although Naoya is a well-written villain, fans can't help but dislike him for his poor attitude and sadism. He's the petulant product of the corruption within the jujutsu sorcerer community, making him one of the worst characters in JJK.
