Demon Slayer is filled with some of the best enemies for the main protagonist to go up against, leaving fans wanting more. Unfortunately, that does leave some of these demons struggling at the bottom of the food chain.

While Demon Slayer excels with its backstories and fighting skills for demons, it doesn't make up for the lack of effort spent on some of them. Supporting demon characters, background plot device demons, and even high-ranking demons that are expected to impress the audience have shown poor performances.

10 Gyokko Is Way Too Distracted

Upper rank 5 demon Gyokko from Demon Slayer

While the Upper Rank 5 demon Gyokko has some truly interesting fighting techniques, his obsession with his artistic skills and jealousy over anyone who proves to surpass him overshadows them. During his battle with the Mist Hashira Muichiro, Gyokko gets distracted by the swordsmith Hotaru Hagenzuka working on the finishing touches of a sword.

Seeing the swordsmith so focused and dedicated to his work enrages Gyokko, causing him to put all his energy into trying to make the swordsmith lose his concentration. This makes Gyokko's incredible power seem obsolete and one of the easiest Upper Ranks to defeat.

9 Enmu, The Last Lower Rank Demon Standing

Enmu smiling in Demon Slayer

Enmu is the Lower Rank 6 demon and the main antagonist of the Mugen Train Arc. He could have easily been the end to the show's main characters if not for his overconfidence in his plan. Enmu's ability to put his opponents to sleep and leave them vulnerable is quite handy, and easily put him up the ranks of the Twelve Kizuki.

Unfortunately his decision to leave it up to children to finish someone off keeps him at the bottom. Enmu's decision to have desperate children take on not only demon slayers but even a Hashira shows his inability to really know his opponent.

8 Kaigaku Couldn't Make It As A Demon Slayer Or A Demon

Demon Kaigaku unsheathes his sword in Demon Slayter: Kimetsu no Yaiba manga

After the demise of the original Upper Rank 6 demons Daki and Gyutaro, Kaigaku takes their place. Once a former demon slayer and a disciple of the former Thunder Hashira Jigoro Kuwajima, Kaigaku falls down the wrong path by willingly letting the Upper Rank 1 demon turn him into one of Muzan Kibutsuji's minions.

Regardless of his Thunder Breathing techniques, his selfish personality proved to put him down the ranks as a good demon slayer. That same trait should have been just what was needed to be an unbeatable demon, yet Kaigaku proves that his arrogance outshines his strengths.

7 Yahaba & His Vector Arrows

Yahaba attacking Nezuko from Demon Slayer

Yahaba is Susamaru's partner and helps her control where her Temari balls land using his ability to conjure vector arrows. Yahaba spends much of his fight scene hiding in a tree away from the action until he is forced into battle by Tanjiro's sister Nezuko.

Where this ability would seem useful, it proves to just be irritating to the opponent as a method to keep them from landing an attack. Even Yahaba trying to use his vector arrows as an offensive maneuver shows his lack of battle skills, as the move only aids his opponent.

6 Susamaru & Her Temari Balls

Demon Slayer Demon Susamaru Using Temari Ball

Susamaru is a physically strong demon, giving her the power to throw her Temari balls at a deadly speed. Susamaru doesn't possess any form of strategic abilities during her fight and allows her bloodlust and child-like behavior to take the best of her. She leaves all the planning to her partner, Yahaba.

Alone, Susamaru would be an easy fight, but with Yahaba's help, the Temari balls become a nuisance. Without Yahaba to assist her, Susamaru would be just like a child playing dodgeball with her friends.

5 The Drum Demon, Kyogai

The drum demon braces himself to attack tanjiro

Kyogai once held the title of Lower Rank 6 in the Twelve Kizuki, a group of the most powerful demons controlled by Muzan Kibutsuji, but he was removed for being too weak. Kyogai realizes he has hit his limit on power by eating regular humans and puts himself on a mission to capture only humans that possessed a special type of blood using his Tsuzumi Drums.

Despite his incredible ability to control his surroundings with the Tsuzumi Drums on his body, he sets limitations on it by confining himself in the Tsuzumi Mansion and not presenting his full potential.

4 The Hand Demon Isn't As Tough As He Seems

The Hand Demon from Demon Slayer.

The Hand Demon is one of the first main demons with an important backstory shown in Demon Slayer, but his fear of death makes him fall short. At first, the Hand Demon is shown to be one of the strongest and most fearless demons on Mount Fujikasane before facing Tanjiro.

With his large stature, he has many arms on his body, which are perfect for grabbing enemies from far away. Yet, during his short fight with Tanjiro, he proves to be no more than just a scary demon that not even a body made of hands can help. Where most demons would use that ability to strike down others, the Hand Demon uses it to hide.

3 The Older Sister Of The Spider Demon, Rui

The Spider Demon sister from Demon Slayer

The Spider Demon family in Mount Natagumo consists of five demons under the control of Rui the Lower Rank 5 in the Twelve Kizuki. While most of the family members prove to be useful whether they use their pure strength or their ability to control others with their demon silk thread, the older sister shows nothing but fear.

Not only is she shown standing back and watching as her family is cut down by the Demon Slayers, but a flashback to the start of their pretend family is presented, showing the older sister betraying another former sister in Rui's fake family.

2 The Swamp Demon & His Swamp Dimension

The Swamp Demon and Tanjiro fighting.

The Swamp Demon's ability to divide itself into three separate demons and create a small swamp dimension gives false hope to be one of the best fights in the first season. Despite all his potential, the Swamp Demon's lack of strength outside his swamp is where he fails.

The only advantage he has against an enemy is his ability to teleport from different areas using his swamp, allowing him to perform a sneak attack. But even with this skill, he's useless unless he can force an opponent into his swamp.

1 The Tongue Demon From The Tsuzumi Mansion Is Pretty Ordinary

The Tongue Demon from Demon Slayer.

The Tongue Demon is a minor character and one of the three demons that resides in the Tsuzumi Mansion. He's portrayed as an ordinary, unintelligent, hungry demon. His only real ability is his fast-moving, lizard-like tongue.

The Tongue Demon possesses no actual skills and can't stand up against other demons introduced into the show. The only real advantage of having this character is to show how Zenitsu's Thunder Breathing technique comes to life whenever he faints from fear.
