The following contains spoilers for Ant-Man #2, on sale Aug. 31 from Marvel.

Eric O'Grady, the third person to take on the Ant-Man mantle following Hank Pym and Scott Lang, immediately declares himself "the worst Ant-Man ever" in a preview for Marvel's Ant-Man #2.

Ant-Man #2 comes from writer Al Ewing, artist Tom Reilly, colorist Jordie Bellaire and letterer VC's Cory Petit. Originally announced in February, the four-issue Ant-Man series celebrates every hero who has taken on the Ant-Man mantle -- Pym, Lang and O'Grady -- before a brand-new, still unseen Ant-Man brings them all together to face an unknown threat in the series' final installment.

While Pym took the spotlight in the first issue of the series, Ant-Man #2 gives O'Grady his time to shine. The story picks up shortly after O'Grady has transitioned from a lowly S.H.I.E.L.D analyst into the Irredeemable Ant-Man. "As we open out story, just yesterday, he's made his daring escape from the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier -- after accidentally burning off fellow agent Mitch Carson's face -- and has no place to go!" an ant narrates. "Oh! And it's the Noughties -- I mean, it's Marvel-time-six-years-ago! So Hank Pym's a secret Skrull right now and Scott Lang is dead. Bad decade if you're Ant-Man, right?"

Marvel's Worst Ant-Man

The preview further sees O'Grady exploring his suit and powers before learning Lang is dead. Rather than expressing sadness or disappointment, however, O'Grady declares the revelation "awesome news." Created by Robert Kirkman and Phil Hester, O'Grady first appeared in 2006's The Irredeemable Ant-Man #1. The character is known for having a darker side compared to his predecessors, as O'Grady initially lacks any kind of moral code and stole the Ant-Man suit for his own selfish purposes. Over the years, O'Grady joined the Initiative, Thunderbolts and Secret Avengers before he eventually dies in Secret Avengers #23. He was replaced by a Life Model Decoy who has all of O'Grady's memories and then becomes an antagonist called Black Ant.

The synopsis for Ant-Man #2 reads, "Jumping forward in time…the Marvel Universe has been infiltrated by shape-shifting Skrulls posing as allies. Little does anyone know that a SECRET INVASION is about to explode! But what does that have to do with this era’s Ant-Man, Eric O’Grady?! Eric must retrieve important data from Scott Lang’s helmet. The only problem is Scott Lang is dead! But what’s a little grave robbing to someone who’s irredeemable? The journey through Ant-Man’s history continues!"

Ant-Man #2 features cover art by Reilly and variant cover art by Betsy Cola. The issue goes on sale Aug. 31 from Marvel.
