Times That Wonder Woman Was Wanted By the Police!

In their latest look at recurring plot points, CSBG shows times that Wonder Woman became wanted by the police!

In Drawing Crazy Patterns, I spotlight at least five scenes/moments from within comic book stories that fit under a specific theme (basically, stuff that happens frequently in comics). Note that these lists are inherently not exhaustive. They are a list of five examples (occasionally I'll be nice and toss in a sixth). So no instance is "missing" if it is not listed. It's just one of the five examples that I chose.

A while back, I did an installment of I Can't Cover What I Am that looked at comic book covers featuring superhero characters on Wanted posters. At the time, I noticed that there were so many Wonder Woman examples that I planned on doing a Drawing Crazy Patterns just on her being wanted by the police. Reader Thomas B. asked me to do it, as well, so here we go!

First up we have Wonder Woman #108, which has a great Ross Andru and Mike Esposito cover...

The story by Robert Kanigher, Ross Andru and Mike Esposito involves aliens who plan to get Wonder Woman out of the way before they invade Earth. Their plan involves making her a criminal through brainwashing.

It appears to work...

However, it is all a trick to lure them into a false sense of security!

Much later on, during a period where the Earth-2 Wonder Woman became the star of the series (so as to tie-in with the Wonder Woman TV series, which was initially set during World War II), Wonder Woman is framed for treason in Wonder Woman #240 (by Gerry Conway, Jose Delbo and Joe Giella) and arrested by the military police (STILL COUNTS!)...

The next one is a really trippy one, since it actually involves TWO spots on this list!

In Wonder Woman #55, Diana runs afoul of the villainous Doctor Psycho. He murders a teacher but when the police show up to arrest him, he disappears.

So they arrest Wonder Woman in Wonder Woman #56 (by George Perez, Joe Phillips and Romeo Tanghal). However, she first convinces them to allow her to help one of the victims (who was badly injured by Doctor Psycho) to deliver her baby...

She succeeds, but she then has to give herself over to the cops...

This led to an amazing George Perez cover for the next issue...

Wait until you see the crazy twist in that issue, though!

In Wonder Woman #57 (by Perez, Jill Thompson and Romeo Tanghal), while Wonder Woman is dealing with the mess in Boston with Doctor Pycho's victims, the cops really don't believe she is guilty, so they allow her to head to Gotham City when a bunch of people are murdered - allegedly by Amazons!

So Wonder Woman ends up getting arrested by Commissioner Gordon by a whole OTHER murder!!!

She eventually breaks free and goes on the run to stop the REAL murderer, the Cheetah. I legitimately don't recall how the "breaking out of custody" deal got resolved.

Finally, in Wonder Woman #219 (by Greg Rucka and Rags Morales), Wonder Woman fights Superman, who has been controlled by Maxwell Lord. Wonder Woman has to kill Lord to stop his control over Superman...
