Wonder Woman and Thor are both among the most powerful characters in their respective universes. Likewise, their godlike powers and backgrounds make them some of the strongest characters in all of comics, period. With the two having many things in common, fans have often debated who would win between the two. Thor certainly has demonstrated some incredible power, especially with the recently concluded War of the Realms story.

However, Diana is arguably just as strong, especially considering her standing within DC Comics. Looking at specific attributes from both of them, it is easy to see how the two would pair nicely in battle. To offer our own input into the debate, here are our thoughts on Wonder Woman vs Thor: who is really the stronger god?

11 Enemy Power Level: Thor

While Wonder Woman has certainly taken down some powerful threats over the years, Thor has easily taken down the greater menaces. Characters like Loki, Malekith, and Hela especially are all incredibly powerful beings that are worthy of facing off against Thor’s might. Much like Wonder Woman, Thor’s villains are often Gods or magic-based.

Though Wonder Woman has taken down threats like Cheetah, Hercules, and even Ares himself, Thor’s villains have a tendency to be a larger scale threat. For Example, Loki’s plots especially tend to span the entire Marvel Universe, while Cheetah’s plots are typically just limited to Wonder Woman’s situation. While both have some fantastic villains, in terms of raw power, Thor’s Rogues Gallery just ranks slightly above Wonder Woman’s.

10 Main Inherent Power: Thor

Though both Wonder Woman and Thor are Gods, the former is technically a demigod. Eventually, Diana becomes the God of War for a period, though that time has since passed for the character. Thor, on the other hand, is always going to be a god, even if he isn’t always worthy of his powers.

As a result of his bloodline, Thor has a bit of an edge in this area. While Diana is still gifted with things like youth, strength, and the like, Thor is technically immortal, making him all the more difficult to defeat.

9 Main External Power: Thor

Bloodline aside, Thor still shows incredible displays of power on a daily basis. In being able to wield lightning, Thor continually reminds his opponents of just how powerful he can be at times. That’s not to say that Wonder Woman doesn’t come close.

Diana’s own abilities still make her immeasurably powerful, but her ever-changing backstory doesn’t help the character in terms of her external abilities. Currently, the only extra ability that Thor possesses is the ability to control light. Aside from that, his powers and Diana’s are virtually identical. However, that extra ability gives Thor an advantage, making him the victor of this round.

8 Allies: Wonder Woman

It is really hard to see the Avengers ever beating a team like the Justice League. In terms of raw power alone, the Justice League clearly outmatches the likes of the Avengers. Furthermore, the brainpower on the Justice League alone could also arguably outmatch some of Marvel’s smartest heroes.

Thor is easily one of the heaviest hitters on his team. If he were to call in for backup, Diana herself would have a relatively easy time taking down certain members of the Avengers. With the Justice League and her fellow Amazons at her side, however, there is no question that Diana would be able to overpower the God of Thunder and his allies.

7 Experience: Wonder Woman

Wonder Woman has the unfair advantage of being far older than Thor (at least Marvel’s version of the character). Originally debuting in 1941, Diana has an extra 21 years of experience over the God of Thunder. Though Thor’s comic book backstory still makes him the older of the two, Thor also needed time to evolve into the character he is today.

Since her creation, Wonder Woman has come to symbolize things like hope, feminism, and peace. Thor, unfortunately, doesn’t stand for much. In terms of the comics themselves, Diana has also been able to hone her skills as a combatant, regularly go against a wide assortment of enemies, and has had a constantly changing place in the DC Universe, which only shows her growth as a character.

6 Personality: Wonder Woman

As mentioned previously, Wonder Woman is far more symbolic as a character. In living in a man's world, Diana tries her best to spread ideas of peace, love, and hope, in order to help make the planet a better place. Even aside from being one of DC’s more powerful characters, Diana is also one of the most important comic book characters of all time.

While Thor is certainly an intriguing character in his own right, he also comes from a spoiled, troubled past. Even though he regularly sets out to prove that he has grown, at times, that arrogant and entitled version of himself still appears. Diana has made her fair share of mistakes as well, but overall, her personality is far more strongly defined than Thor's.

5 Strength: Tie

Excluding things that boost their powers, the two are actually on a fairly even playing field. Even without Mjolnir, Thor is still far stronger than most comic book characters. Likewise, Diana has occasionally gone toe-to-toe with the likes of Superman and Doomsday.

Though both of them may not be the strongest in their respective universes, they are still among the more powerful characters that each publisher has to offer. Since there is no way to truly measure just how strong or powerful each individual is, this round results in a tie.

4 Durability: Wonder Woman

Unfortunately for Thor, if you take away Mjolnir, Stormbreaker, Jarnbjorn, or whatever he is wielding at the time, he is significantly easier to knockdown. Though he may still put up a fight, Diana's Amazon training makes her an incredibly difficult combatant. Unlike Thor, Diana doesn’t rely on brute strength or raw power alone. Instead, she uses whatever is at her disposal, oftentimes manipulating the environment, or simply wearing down her opponent to achieve victory.

During the famous JLA: Tower of Babel storyline, Diana believed herself to be locked in an ongoing battle. She literally kept her brain activity up to the point where she nearly gave herself a heart attack. Even though she may not be the strongest DC character, Diana is not one to go down without fighting the good fight.

3 Equipment: Wonder Woman

Both characters actually have their own signature piece of equipment. Thor, of course, has his hammer, Mjolnir; on the other hand, Diana has her Lasso of Truth. While Mjolnir is arguably far more powerful than Diana’s lasso, Wonder Woman also utilizes other equipment more often than Thor.

Depending on the continuity, Wonder Woman has used Hermes’ winged sandals to fly. She has also been shown to utilize several magical weapons, which of course can even harm Superman. Lastly, there is her famous invisible jet. With so many extra bits of equipment at her disposal, Wonder Woman definitely has an advantage here.

2 Greatest Feat: Wonder Woman

Throughout her extensive comic book history, Diana has come to accomplish quite a lot. Furthermore, as a member of DC’s Trinity, Wonder Woman has certainly earned her place amongst the world’s greatest superheroes. In lieu of her accomplishments, Diana has taken on some of the Earth’s greatest threats like Ares, the Sinestro Corps, and even Darkseid.

However, Diana hasn’t just beaten some of the greatest planetary threats but also some of its greatest protectors. On several occasions, Diana has squared off against Batman and Superman. Furthermore, in the Justice League: A League of One storyline, Diana actually manages to single-handedly take out every member of the Justice League. If that doesn’t show just how powerful she truly can be, nothing else will.

1 Winner: Wonder Woman

Thor may be mighty, but Wonder Woman is the stronger of the two characters. Without Mjolnir, Thor wouldn’t stand a chance against the likes of Wonder Woman.

Furthermore, Wonder Woman’s evolution as a character has set her on a journey that has inspired millions of fans all over the world. Wonder Woman has grown beyond her comic book role to hold an important place in the real world. Wonder Woman proves just how strong she, and everyone else, can be.
