Gal Gadot's Princess Diana steals the mythical "god killer" sword from the Amazon armory in a new photo from "Wonder Woman."
The image, by photographer Clay Enos, debuted on EW.com, where it's explained the theft signifies Diana's decision to forge her own path, in disobedience of her mother, Queen Hippolyta (Connie Nielsen). With the sword in her possession, the heroine leaves the secluded island of Themyscira for Europe in hopes of saving humanity.
“This is her moment,” director Patty Jenkins told the website. “She’s heard all the terrible things about man’s land. But she’s also heard that mankind is in need and under duress. This is her great moment to make the decision to be the one to try and save them.”
Based on a screenplay by Allan Heinberg and Geoff Johns, "Wonder Woman" tells the story of the Amazon princess who, after discovering the body of American fighter pilot Steve Trevor washed ashore washed ashore on Themyscira, sets out to bring an early end to World War I.
Opening June 2, 2017, "Wonder Woman" also stars Chris Pine, Robin Wright, Lucy Davis, Lisa Loven Kongsli, Danny Huston, Elena Anaya, Ewen Bremner, Saïd Taghmaoui and David Thewlis.
