Phil Jimenez is no stranger to Wonder Woman, having worked as both a writer and an artist on the character's ongoing title and even co-writing The Essential Wonder Woman Encyclopedia. Now, in a pair of clips from today's episode of DC Daily, Jimenez has shed more light on why he loves Diana Prince and what it was like to see his work influence the DC animated film Wonder Woman: Bloodlines.

"There were four things I wanted to do and that was ultimately pay homage to George Perez in his run, which was so important to me," Jimenez said about his time on Wonder Woman. "George Perez will always be probably the most important sort of mentor and artistic figure in my life. And he wrote and drew Wonder Woman and resuscitated her in the '80s, etc., so what my goal was to hit the four beats I believed he had hit during his run, what made it so popular. One was simply to reinvigorate her villains. Another was remind everyone who her supporting cast was, which changed quite a bit. One is to remind everyone what her mission was, because people often asked about why Wonder Woman exists, and her mission was always very clear, which was, of course, she was here to end war, to stop Ares from destroying our world. And finally, I was very interested in the relationship with her mother. I'm an only child of a single parent, and that relationship between Diana and Hippolyta always appealed to me because it was complicated and complex. Certainly, I'm not a woman, but the notion of an overprotective parent and a really eager child trying to escape that has always touched me."

As for Jimenez's Silver Swan making her animated debut in Bloodline, Jimenez said, "I was kind of surprised, I was like, 'Oh, my god, that's Silver Swan! I did that, that's so great!' so I'm actually really excited as just one more person who's added to Wonder Woman's legacy that it can keep going."

Wonder Woman: Bloodlines stars Rosario Dawson as Wonder Woman, Jeffrey Donovan as Steve Trevor, Adrienne Moore as Etta Candy, Nia Vardalos as Julia Kapatelis and Cree Summer as Hippolyta, as well as Marie Avgeropoulos as Silver Swan. The film is now available now on Digital HD, Blu-ray and 4k Ultra HD, and it's also available to stream on DC Universe.
