Wonder Woman has really been thrown into an emotional battle as of late, not just physically but mentally, as Diana is trapped in Valhalla. The Themysciran heroine is in the afterlife after rebuking DC's cosmic god-watch, fighting and dying every day as she's being treated to an honorable warrior's death according to Norse mythology.
The problem is, Wonder Woman has no clue how she got there, nor does she recognize the mysterious voice telling her that she belongs on Olympus with the pantheon of Greek gods. And it doesn't look like her journey's going to be letting up anytime soon as Wonder Woman #771 now finds Diana locating Odin, and igniting what just might be the tipping point for Ragnarok.
Wonder Woman leaves the Valhalla base as she can't stand the arrogant Thor. More so, his forces aren't interested in helping her locate Siegfried, or ascertain why the Valkyries are going missing. This leads to her and her squirrel sidekick, Ratatosk, traversing Yggdrasil (the World Tree) only to find Dr. Psycho controlling dwarves and elves. She has no clue how he got there, but she uses her Lasso of Truth to extract intel and heads off to find a serpent he mentions, Nidhogg.
Just like Norse mythology, it's at the base of the tree connecting all these realms, indicating that it has the key to what Diana seeks. However, it must come at a price, sending her off to find an eagle's egg. As Diana scours the tree, she meets Odin, hanging upside down with his ravens watching. He jokes with Diana as he's in his Wotan form, telling her she'll soon figure it out before dropping off the tree. Wonder Woman's taken aback by his cryptic words but she's too busy to dissect them, and continues on to find the egg.
Diana brings the egg back to the creature and hides herself inside so that when Nidhogg swallows it, she can emerge and find the key inside the serpent's stomach. The problem is, this might not be Nidhogg; it might actually be the Midgard Serpent. Usually, this entity, Jörmungandr, is in the sea, awaiting a final battle with Thor as Ragnarok occurs, all leading to the restart of Asgard.
With Odin's apparent death and Nidhogg admitting it's ready to eat Asgard, it could be that this is the ultimate destroyer the mythology has spoken of. In this realm, nothing is what it seems and Ratatosk admitted some creatures have deceitful forms, so Diana will have to be tread carefully, as she's literally in the belly of the beast. While she tries to piece everything together, though, what's for certain is the end of days is coming and Diana's caught in the middle.
