No sooner does a report surfaces revealing which actor portrays the villainous Ares in "Wonder Woman" than we get a first look at the film's god of war -- in toy form.

ToyArk photographed Mattel's DC Entertainment display at Toy Fair 2017 in New York City, which of course included a selection of action figures from the upcoming Warner Bros. film. And there, front and center, with action figures of Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman, Chris Pine's Steve Trevor and Connie Nielsen's Queen Hippolyta is none other than Wonder Woman's longtime foe Ares.

The design, with medieval-style body armor and horned -- maybe even animal-skull -- helmet, isn't that far removed from the depiction of Ares by George Perez in DCs 1987 "Wonder Woman" reboot. It's difficult to get a sense of scale, in comparison to the other figures near him, but it's likely this god of war is larger than the other characters in the film. As we reported earlier today, "Harry Potter" franchise veteran David Thewlis is believed to play Ares, presumably in a voice role. The character is thought to be brought to life through a combination of computer-generated and practical effects.

Directed by Patty Jenkins, "Wonder Woman" tells the story of the Amazon princess who, after discovering the body of American fighter pilot Steve Trevor washed ashore washed ashore on Themyscira, sets out to bring an early end to World War I. The film stars Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Robin Wright, Lucy Davis, Lisa Loven Kongsli, Danny Huston, Elena Anaya, Ewen Bremner, Saïd Taghmaoui and David Thewlis.

Based on a screenplay by Allan Heinberg and Geoff Johns, "Wonder Woman" opens June 2.
