A fan recently pointed out a character featured in Wonder Woman 1984 that may reference writer Gail Simone's run on the Wonder Woman comic series for DC Comics.The Wonder Woman 1984 scene in question took place in a shopping mall, during which Gal Gadot's Diana Prince/Wonder Woman saves a young girl who bore a striking resemblance to the character Peony McGill aka Star-Blossom. Created by Gail Simone and Colleen Doran, Peony McGill/Star-Blossom appeared in the Wonder Woman comics as a young girl who could control plant life. The character's first appearance came in 2016's Wonder Woman 75th Anniversary Special. She later appeared in the comic series, Dial H for Hero. Currently, there has been no official word on if the character who appeared in Wonder Woman 1984 was actually supposed to be Star-Blossom.

Wonder Woman 1984 showed the titular character on a journey to stop Pedro Pascal's Maxwell Lord from using an ancient relic called the "Dreamstone" to tear the world apart, all while her powers seemed to be disappearing. Other popular characters from DC Comics to appear in Wonder Woman 1984 include Steve Trevor and Barbara Ann Minerva/Cheetah.

While director Patty Jenkins previously seemed determined for Wonder Woman 1984 to have a theatrical premiere, it was eventually revealed that the film would be released in theaters and on HBO Max at the same time. Both premieres took place on Dec. 25, 2020, with HBO Max set to stream the film for a month following its release.

While Wonder Woman 1984 only released in 2,150 theaters during its opening weekend, the movie is predicted to have the best opening weekend of any film released during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. It has received mostly positive reviews with a current rating of 65 percent among critics and 72 percent among audience members on Rotten Tomatoes. Additionally, Wonder Woman 1984 received a 5.9 out of 10 on IMDB and a 59 percent rating on Metacritic.

Gail Simone is a well-known comic book writer that has worked on a multitude of popular series, including Deadpool, Action Comics, Birds of Prey, Batgirl and Red Sonja. She also helped write for several television shows and films, including My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic, Batman: The Brave and the Bold and Justice League Unlimited. Recently, Simone's work was featured in The Last Stories of the DC Universe, which was included as part of the crossover event, Dark Nights: Death Metal.

Directed and co-written by Patty Jenkins, Wonder Woman 1984 stars Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Kristen Wiig, Pedro Pascal and Natasha Rothwell. The film is currently in theaters and on HBO Max.
