When it comes to taking down Superman, the DC universe collectively looks to is the diminutive genius, Batman. Across several comics, cartoons and movies, we've seen the Dark Knight's arsenal boasting kryptonite, as well as other weapons such as his special Man of Steel-killing Bat-suit in Frank Miller' The Dark Knight Returns.

However, with the original Caped Crusader dead in the DCeased Universe, issue #6 leaves the world to rely on Diana of Themyscira as the last hope against a zombified Superman. But rather than unleashing a war suit or anything tech-related, Wonder Woman goes medieval, forging a special kryptonite-infused magical sword to do the job.

With Damian Wayne, the new Batman, revealing his dad's plans if Superman ever went rogue, Wonder Woman quickly decides what's the best way to put his kryptonite to use. She doesn't believe in the suppression gas Bruce envisioned, as he didn't want Superman dead in his scenarios. Instead, Diana takes the kryptonite and forges it into the Sword of Athena. As she does, she makes it perfectly clear that it isn't a battle Superman is meant to walk away from.

She needs a much more lethal response because they can't gamble losing to Kal-El. This would mean the end of the universe if he can't be stopped. So, while Lex Luthor's arks take all of Earth's refugees off-planet to find a safe haven in the stars, Diana begins to implement the solution she came up with alongside her mother, Queen Hippolyta.

Black Canary, using her Green Lantern ring and sonic screams, and Cyborg, are able to distract Superman when they eventually find him. As he punches Canary's constructs, Wonder Woman slices his arm off. She quickly follows up by stabbing him through the gut, but this Man of Steel is just too powerful in his mindless rage. Driven by a lust for blood, he isn't fazed and punches through Diana in retaliation, mortally wounding and infecting her.

While her colleagues tend to her after she falls to the ground, Superman heads into orbit to destroy the arks, which leads Diana to urge Canary to finish what she started. Cyborg stays with Wonder Woman as penance for unleashing the virus in the first place, but Canary doesn't have time to waste, flying off to kill Kal-El. Sadly, things don't go according to plan. With Jon Kent slowing Superman down, the Man of Steel finds himself opposed by Canary and the arrival of the Green Lantern Corps. Recognizing that death awaits in the sword Canary's wielding, he flees into the heart of the sun to absorb its powers. Canary doesn't get to use the sword and she joins the ark with Lois and Green Arrow to find a new home as Superman just doomed this one.

However, with Sector 2814 now set to freeze to death (after Superman drinks in the last drop of the sun), and thus render the virus inert, the Guardians of Oa quarantine the area. There's still a chance for Canary to slay Superman, though. We didn't see him emerge from the sun, so chances are he could still be alive, regenerating for another fight. With that in mind, let's hope Canary can keep the sword safe until she needs it most.
