DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn has confirmed that Wonder Woman will appear in the forthcoming DC Universe sooner than fans initially expected.Gunn was recently asked a two-part question by a fan on Twitter regarding Wonder Woman's role in his 10-year DCU plan after the character was noticeably absent from his initial DCU announcement. The questions were: "Does Wonder Woman have a future in your plans? Is she going to be abandoned for a long time[?]" Gunn quickly put the DC fan's worries to rest when he replied, "Yes" and "no" to the respective questions, confirming that plans for Wonder Woman to grace the big screen again are in the works.RELATED: Two DCU Projects Were in the Works Before James Gunn, Peter Safran Took Charge

However, one question that remains unanswered at this time is the matter of who will be playing Wonder Woman in Gunn's DCU. Gal Gadot previously played the Amazonian in four DC films -- Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016), Wonder Woman (2017), Justice League (2017) and Wonder Woman 1984 (2020) -- and is rumored to also be appearing in the upcoming Shazam! Fury of the Gods. She was initially set to headline a third Wonder Woman film, but the project was scrapped following the appointment of Gunn and Peter Safran as heads of DC Studios. Despite the DC leadership shuffle, Gunn has affirmed that Gadot has not been "booted" from the iconic DC role, although he has also not clarified at this time if he plans on bringing the actor back as Wonder Woman for his DCU.

Could Wonder Woman Appear in Paradise Lost?

With Gunn's confirmation that Wonder Woman will factor into Chapter 1 of the DCU, some fans have pondered if the character could appear in the upcoming HBO Max series, Paradise Lost, which will be set on Themyscira, the all-female island that is Wonder Woman’s birthplace. However, Gunn and Safran have stated that Paradise Lost will be set before the birth of Diana, meaning the character is unlikely to appear in at least the show's first season. Gunn previously described the show as "a Game of Thrones-type story about Themyscira" that "involves all of the darkness, drama and political intrigue behind this society of only women."

At the time of writing, Wonder Woman is the only character in the DC Trinity to not have an announced DCU project in the works. The other two superheroes -- Superman and Batman -- will each be headlining their own respective solo films, with the Man of Steel fronting Superman: Legacy and the Dark Knight bringing his son Damian into his world in The Brave and the Bold.

Paradise Lost does not yet have a release date.
