Wonder Woman Commitments Force Gal Gadot to Pass on 'Ben-Hur'

Director Timur Bekmambetov will have to continue his search for a love interest for Ben-Hur. TheWrap reports that Gal Gadot, the frontrunner for the role of Esther, has had to drop out due to her commitment to play Wonder Woman in Warner Bros.' DC film slate.

The actress, who debuts as the iconic superheroine in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, will remain busy in the role beyond that, as she'll also star in Wonder Woman (June 23, 2017) and Justice League (Nov. 17, 2017).

Both a remake of the 1959 classic and an adaptation of Lew Wallace’s 1880 novel Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ, the Paramount Pictures/MGM film stars Jack Huston in the title role. It's set to begin production early next year for release on Feb. 26, 2016.

On the subject of Wonder Woman, Bleeding Cool puts forward the rumor that the film will be set in the 1920s, with a potential sequel taking places during Word War II, and a third moving the action to the present.

Opening March 28, 2016, director Zack Snyder's Batman v Superman also stars Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne, Diane Lane, Jesse Eisenberg, Jeremy Irons and Holly Hunter
