Wonder Woman Cellist Shares Metal Version of Heroine’s Theme

Warner Bros. upcoming “Wonder Woman” will see the Amazon princess going up against one of the deadliest gods in the Greek pantheon, but it’s the gods of rock that must be pleased today with the release of cellist Tina Guo’s Twitter post teasing her own metal-yet-orchestral interpretation of “Is She With You.” The song first appeared in the preceding DC Comics Extended Universe entry, Zack Snyder’s “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” and was used as Wonder Woman’s theme song in the film.

Guo served as the primary cellist for “Batman v Superman,” the score for which was helmed by Hans Zimmer. According to io9, Guo’s Twitter post isn’t a tease of the upcoming “Wonder Woman’s” official theme, it’s just a personal composition she’s been working on based off “Is She With You.” Regardless, Guo’s skills run deep. Another video she uploaded shows that she is not only a master cellist, but also formidable on the bass.

The score for “Wonder Woman” is helmed by Rupert Gregson-Williams, whose work includes “Hotel Rwanda” and the Netflix series “The Crown,” but will make use of the superheroine’s theme song from “Batman v Superman,” as composed by Junkie XL alongside Zimmer. A trained cellist and erhuist, Guo returns to work on the score for “Wonder Woman,” but has yet to share any of her musical work on the film ahead of its release.

Classically trained under her father, Lu-Yan Guo, and then Elenore Schoenfield and Nathaniel Rosen, Guo studied at the USC Thornton School of Music in Los Angeles, California. She has performed with the Foo Fighters at the Grammy Awards and toured for three years with Cirque du Soleil on the troupe’s “Michael Jackson: The Immortal” world tour.

Patty Jenkins and the “Wonder Woman” crew have recently opened up about the film ahead of its summer release. The origins of the film’s Amazons, the supernaturally strong and resilient race of warrior women who reside on the island Themyscira, have recently been revealed. Jenkins has also revealed how the hero deals with World War I-era sexism, having earlier noted that she received no mandate on tone from DC Entertainment.

Debuting in theaters June 2, “Wonder Woman” is a production of DC Entertainment directed by Patty Jenkins and starring Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Connie Nielsen, Robin Wright, David Thewlis, Danny Huston, Elena Anaya, Lucy Davis, Said Taghmaoui and Ewen Bremner.
