Although Wonder Wonder 1984 doesn't arrive until Christmas, the film's director and co-writer Patty Jenkins recently shared some information regarding how the planned Amazons spinoff will help set up Wonder Woman 3.

While speaking to Geek Magazine, Jenkins said the spinoff would pick up after Diana left Themyscira to help fight in World War I during 2017's Wonder Woman and would also have elements that tie into Wonder Woman 1984 and the third solo film.

"This is a story that Geoff Johns and I came up with and then introduced to [Warner Bros.]," Jenkins stated. "The events of this story take place after Diana leaves Themyscira, the Island of the Amazons, and there are some twists and turns linked to what will happen between Wonder Woman 1984 and Wonder Woman 3. The production of the project has not yet officially started, but I hope we get it because I love this story."

The Amazons spinoff film and Wonder Woman 3 currently do not have announced release dates. Jenkins also recently announced that she would leave the Wonder Woman franchise after the third film and revealed a possible animated series based on the first two movies could be on the way.

Directed and co-written by Patty Jenkins, Wonder Woman 1984 stars Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Kristen Wiig, Pedro Pascal and Natasha Rothwell. The film arrives in theaters and HBO Max on Dec. 25, while debuting theatrically in international markets starting on Dec. 16.
