The Warner Bros. blockbuster is joined on the AFI Awards list by such films as The Shape of Water, Call Me By Your Name, Get Out and Dunkirk. AFI also selected 10 television series, including Stranger Things, Game of Thrones, The Handmaid's Tale and Master of None.

"So deeply honored for our beloved film to be a part of this distinguished record of filmmaking," Jenkins tweeted this afternoon.

The AFI honor follows quickly on Wonder Woman's three nominations for the Critics' Choice Awards, for Best Picture, Best Visual Effects and Best Costume Designer.

Starring Gal Gadot, the film earned widespread critical acclaim, and $821.8 million worldwide. Jenkins and Gadot are set to return for the sequel, which arrives in theaters Nov. 1, 2019.
