Director Patty Jenkins has confirmed Kristen Wiig has been cast as the villainous Cheetah in Wonder Woman 2.
“So excited to confirm the most thrilling news,” she wrote on Twitter. “Yes! It’s true! So incredibly lucky to welcome the sensationally talented Kristen Wiig to our Wonder Woman family. Can’t wait to finally work with one of my favorites. And SO excited by what we have planned.”
Jenkins tweet, which included the hashtag #Cheetah, comes more than a week after a report that the Bridesmaids and Ghostbusters star was in talks for the role opposite Gal Gadot in the Warner Bros. sequel.

Cheetah debuted in Wonder Woman comics in 1943, and has appeared in four incarnations over the past 75 years. It’s been reported that the film’s version of the character will be Barbara Ann Minerva, the third iteration, described as a British anthropologist who becomes the avatar of a cheetah god after mistakenly finding her way into an ancient ritual.
Directed by Jenkins and starring Gal Gadot, Wonder Woman 2 is slated to hit theaters on Nov. 1, 2019.
