Like the blockbuster original, Warner Bros.' Wonder Woman sequel will flash back to the DC Comics icon's life before Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League. However, while the film will be set decades after the first, director Patty Jenkins revealed some elements won't change.

For starters, she told Variety there will be another love interest for Diana (Gal Gadot). This new love story was described as "great" by Jenkins, although she didn't offer any details as to who this new interest could be. Hand in hand with the new paramour will be a new cast of characters, whom the director called "unbelievable" and "very different than they were in the first movie."

Audiences can expect the formula from the first film to make a return as well. "That’s a formula that I really like, and I like the idea of taking somebody on a very solid, great journey but that arrives at a bigger question being answered," Jenkins said.

Because Diana is already Wonder Woman when the sequel starts, she'll have an established presence rather than being a newcomer to the outside world. Although the formula will be the same, Jenkins said she hopes the sequel will have a story that's vastly different and "tackles something very different but very similarly singular."

Wonder Woman 2 arrives in theaters on Nov. 1, 2019 and stars Gal Gadot.
