WARNING: The following contains spoilers for "Museum Madness," a story from Wonder Woman 1984 #1, from Anna Obropta, Louise Simonson, and Bret Blevins sale now.

Despite the many delays to Wonder Woman 1984, fans remain as excited as ever to see Gal Gadot reprise her role from Patty Jenkins' 2017 movie, as well as Justice League, as she goes about safeguarding humanity. The first movie found her evolving from Amazon Princess to Diana of Themyscira, defender of the free world, partnering with mankind during World War I.

After succeeding, time went by, and in the wake of the late Steve Trevor, the soldiers that Diana and Steve fought alongside died too as they weren't immortal like Diana. However, in a prelude comic to the upcoming sequel, Steve's crew has been revived, in spirit at least, during a museum heist.

Steve's crew meant a lot to Diana as they proved that people were worth trusting. She was cynical, as her tribe had taught her to be, but she quickly saw their potential to be heroes. There was Sameer, a master of disguise and stealth operative; Charlie, a sharpshooter; and Chief Napi, a Native American smuggler. Steve hired them to help stop Dr. Poison's plan of creating deadly gas bombs for the Germans to use in the war and while all their personalities differed from Steve, Diana was amazed by their common thread of selflessness. Ultimately, Steve would die during the finale of the film, sacrificing himself by blowing up a plane carrying poison, while the rest of the crew would perish decades later of old age. But Diana kept them in her heart as we saw them immortalized in that iconic picture they took together. Now, she's privy to that same spirit when thugs come for the Noble Diamond.

Ironically, the group, a bunch of teens checking out the Viking section, are led by their own Wonder Woman in a young lady named Jazz, displaying no fear as well. As the museum goes into lockdown where Diana works, she slips away and turns into Wonder Woman, trying to take out as many thugs as she can. While she does this, the teens arm themselves with swords and go after the robbers as they hate to see them bullying people and taking hostages. From throwing shields to dropping giant bear exhibits on them, the kids prove to be effective soldiers and Diana takes note, watching them duck under a table the same way her old crew did while trying to hide under an old wooden shield as they took fire from Germans.

She recalls that sense of honor and duty with the guys, and how their belief inspired her. They mattered to her more than life and she senses that kindred spirit with this trio, which continues to show humanity is worth fighting for. Eventually, when the robbers are all rounded up, Wonder Woman lets them know how caring they are, and that they remind her of these soldiers -- her first and best friends. The teens even joke about being Wonder Woman's sidekicks and Diana, back in her civilian persona, arranges another visit for them, you can tell she's the one who's honored to have fought alongside these brave young warriors.
