Wonder Woman 1984's planned Christmas release date is up in the air, according to Warner Bros.'s CEO.

Upcoming DC film Wonder Woman 1984 has a tentative theater premiere for Christmas Day. Whether that date will stick could depend on the status of the United States amid the COVID-19 pandemic, as reported by Variety.

Warner Bros. CEO Ann Sarnoff was asked about whether the movie's planned release date was definitive. She answered, “I hope so. It really is about how the U.S. continues to open and whether there are any other surges. We have to be more conscious of the total demand in the U.S. as we think about Wonder Woman."

When asked if this discussion included director and co-writer Patty Jenkins, Sarnoff replied, "Absolutely. We're including Patty."

Wonder Woman 1984 is one of many films of this year to be hit with delays due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Some fans had hoped Warner Bros. would follow Disney's route with 2020's Mulan by releasing the film on a subscription service, but Jenkins has confirmed Wonder Woman 1984 will only debut in theaters.

While Wonder Woman 1984 is the next DCEU film up for release, it certainly is not the last. The sequel will be followed by multiple titles that were recently pushed back due to COVID-19 such Shazam! 2, The Flash, Aquaman 2 and The Batman. Those films are scheduled to be released in 2022 and 2023.

Directed and co-written by Patty Jenkins, Wonder Woman 1984 stars Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Kristen Wiig, Pedro Pascal and Natasha Rothwell. The film is expected to arrive in theaters Dec. 25.
