Wonder Woman 1984: Patty Jenkins Shares Photo of Pedro Pascal

Director Patty Jenkins has shared a new picture of actor Pedro Pascal on the set of Wonder Woman 1984, making us wonder who he might be playing.

There is a lot of mystery surrounding DC and Warner Bros.' Wonder Woman 1984. While the movie is a follow-up to the critically-acclaimed 2016 original, it was recently revealed that it won't actually be a sequel. To make it all the more intriguing, we also know that Chris Pine is once again among the cast of the film -- exactly as he looked in Wonder Woman. Is Steve Trevor back, or is there a whole lot more to this story?Now, the mystery of Wonder Woman 1984 only deepens with the release of a new picture, courtesy of director Patty Jenkins. On her personal Twitter account, Jenkins released a new picture from the shoot of the film,Â featuringÂ the character played by Pedro Pascal (Narcos, Kinsgman: The Golden Circle) appearing on a television screen. We've known for a while that the actor had joined the film's cast but, before now, we had no idea in which capacity the actor would be involved.RELATED:Â Wonder Woman 1984 Adds Ravi Patel & Gabriella WildeThe image itself doesn't reveal anything of particular note, save for the fact that Pascal looks set to have an important role to play in the film. If anything, his demeanor in the picture, and the fact that he appears on television, is informing us that he is someone who has both wealth and power. Were we to judge by this single picture, it wouldn't be out of the question to stipulate that the actor is playing a villain in Wonder Woman 1984.

But which villain could the Narcos actor be playing? Well, the image has already begun to generate some online fan theories, the most prevailing one being that Pascal is actually playing the role of DC Comics villain Maxwell Lord.

In the comic books, the character initially appeared as a powerful businessman and friend of the world's superheroes, before being revealed as a villain. Lord is also an important part of Wonder Woman's history, seeing as how his mind-controlling powers proved so powerful and dangerous that she had no choice but to snap his neck to put an end to his reign of terror (something that could easily echo back to the events ofÂ 2013's Man of Steel).

However, this is a lot of speculation for a simple picture. The theory is sound, given that Pascal's look on Jenkins' picture could easily be compared to Maxwell Lord. However, until we know more, the actor could be playing just about anyone... But then, why keep his role secret at all?

Directed by Patty Jenkins, Wonder Woman 1984 stars Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Kristen Wiig, Pedro Pascal, and Natasha Rothwell. It is scheduled to be released on November 1, 2019.
