The coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak has caused the delay of several films, with Patty Jenkins' Wonder Woman 1984 among them. It was thought that Warner Bros. was considering a VOD-premiere for the film, but a new theatrical release date was announced. Recently, both Jenkins and star Gal Gadot shared their thoughts on the delay as well as the "power of cinema."Both Gadot and Jenkins shared a new motion poster for Wonder Woman 1984, in which Diana Prince can be seen wearing her Golden Eagle armor. "We made Wonder Woman 1984 for the big screen and I believe in the power of cinema," Jenkins said in her tweet. "In these terrible times, when theater owners are struggling as so many are, we are excited to re-date our film to August 14th 2020 in a theater near you, and pray for better times for all by then."RELATED: UPDATE: Wonder Woman 1984 Still Receiving Theatrical ReleaseIn her tweet, Gadot seemed similarly optimistic, saying, "In these dark and scary times, I am looking forward to a brighter future ahead. Where we can share the power of cinema together again." The actor additionally shared the film's new official release date.

Wonder Woman 1984 will continue the story of Gadot's Diana Prince, who first appeared briefly in 2016's Batman V. Superman. The character went on to receive her own solo film, which was also directed by Jenkins, in 2017.

Directed and co-written by Patty Jenkins, Wonder Woman 1984 stars Gal Gadot as Diana, Chris Pine as Steve Trevor, Kristen Wiig as Barbara Minerva/Cheetah, Pedro Pascal and Natasha Rothwell. The film arrives in theaters on Aug 14.
