Reports suggest that during the mid-credit scene, Lynda Carter reveals herself as the Amazonian warrior Asteria and the original owner of Wonder Woman's golden-winged armor suit. Carter then tells Diana "I've been doing this all this time," and gives the audience a little wink.

Carter played Wonder Woman in the original 1970s television show. HBO Max even made the series available to stream on Dec. 23 for viewers to prepare for the release of Wonder Woman 1984. In the new movie, Carter ditches the lasso and invisible plane to portray Asteria, an Amazonian legend.

The Amazon was known as the Golden Warrior Asteria and one of their greatest fighters. Every year, the Amazon Games are dedicated in her honor and a stone Asteria statue stands in the center of the Amazon coliseum. According to legend, Asteria stayed back and held off attackers when Zeus made Themyscria so that the rest of her sisters could flee to the new island. Like most Amazons, Asteria has superhuman strength, durability and stamina. She also wielded the golden armor that Wonder Woman wears in the film's promotional material.

As an archaeologist, Diana who works at the Smithsonian Museum, is a Wonder Woman who has extraordinary superpowers, said to be the strongest hero in the world. In 1984, Wonder Woman is in desperate deadly danger in face of an enormous conspiracy of the businessman Max, who sings loudly to fulfill people's desires, and a mysterious foe, Cheetah. Can Wonder Woman stop the world’s collapse alone?
