Wonder Woman 1984 debuted to a stellar Rotten Tomatoes score of 90% after the early critic reviews began rolling in on Dec 15. However, after its release in both theaters and HBO Max on Dec. 25, the film's score plummeted to 67% on the Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer, losing its "Certified Fresh" rating.

Currently, Wonder Woman 1984 has a total of 268 reviews at the time of writing. The Critics Consensus reads, "Wonder Woman 1984 struggles with sequel overload, but still offers enough vibrant escapism to satisfy fans of the franchise and its classic central character." The Tomatometer gives the film an average rating of 6.30 out of 10, with 180 critics rating the film Fresh, and 88 deeming the sequel as Rotten.

The film opened to relatively positive reviews from critics, which praised the film as DC's "cure" to 2020. CBR's own review from Meagan Damore stated the film was "absolutely worth the wait," and noted that "Gal Gadot adds world-weary layers to the character that weren't present in the first film, creating a striking distinction between the naive, wide-eyed Diana of 1918 and the cool, collected Amazon warrior we meet in 1984."

However, despite the initial positive reviews and the fact that it has maintained a 75% Verified Audience Score, the sequel is no longer Certified Fresh, with Top Critics calling the film "disconnected" and "narratively messy." One critic, Manohla Davis of The New York Times, claims the film "never makes the case for why Wonder Woman is back in action beyond the obvious commercial imperatives."

As an archaeologist, Diana who works at the Smithsonian Museum is a Wonder Woman who has extraordinary superpowers, said to be the strongest hero in the world. In 1984, Wonder Woman is in desperate deadly danger in face of an enormous conspiracy of the businessman Max, who sings loudly to fulfill people's desires, and a mysterious foe, Cheetah. Directed and co-written by Patty Jenkins, Wonder Woman 1984 stars Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Kristen Wiig, Pedro Pascal and Natasha Rothwell. The film is now available in theaters and on HBO Max.
