WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for Wonder Woman 1984, now in theaters and on HBO Max now.

The release date of Patty Jenkins' Wonder Woman 1984 was changed several times, but its ultimate HBO Max and theater release on December 25, 2020, feels appropriate in the context of the film's ending. Diana (Gal Gadot) goes through an emotionally and physically draining journey, accidentally weakening her abilities in exchange for Steve Trevor's (Chris Pine) resurrection, but she has to give him up to get her powers back. However, when it's over, she has a chance to take a moment and enjoy the world she's helped save.

This moment just so happens to come at a holiday fair, presumably taking place in Diana's Washington, D.C. neighborhood. Surrounded by snowmen, lights and candy canes, she happily watches strangers shop and children play. She feels good about the world she's made herself a part of, and she also happens to see an important stranger, listed as Handsome Man (Kristoffer Polaha) in the credits.

He is the man Steve temporarily possesses thanks to Diana's Dreamstone wish, but now he's himself again. They have an amiable conversation, after which Diana looks up at the snow -- mirroring her discovery of snow in the first Wonder Woman. It's also clear that Diana is accepting that her life will go on without Steve.

Polaha doesn't actually have much screen time in Wonder Woman 1984. Although he's the body Steve inhabits, Pine is visible for most of the film. While he's not in the DC Extended Universe film much, Polaha has been in a multitude of films and TV shows, but he's especially well known for his appearance in Hallmark's holiday films. These include Heart of ChristmasRocky Mountain Christmas,  Small Town Christmas and Double Holiday. Like most entries in the Hallmark Christmas collection, these films all follow similar formulas: a kind-hearted woman crosses paths with an abrasive man around Christmas, and romantic hijinks ensues.

Looking back at the ending scene, this moment between Diana and the Handsome Man wouldn't be out of place in a Hallmark special. Two strangers with an obscure connection meet at a holiday gathering and exchange pleasantries, suggesting a relationship might develop in the future sounds like the set up for another holiday film.

In the case of 1984, it's unlikely that Diana will pursue a relationship with Handsome Man in the future, but the moment is still sweet. Though the Hallmark-esque scene at the end of 1984 likely won't lead to a romance in subsequent Wonder Woman films, it -- and Polaha -- are still a pleasant nod to the comfortable, beloved Hallmark genre.

Directed and co-written by Patty Jenkins, Wonder Woman 1984 stars Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Kristen Wiig, Pedro Pascal and Natasha Rothwell. The film is now available in theaters and on HBO Max.
