Wonder Woman 1984's costume designer has lifted the veil on Diana Prince's latest look and revealed how she'll be channeling her inner-Batman in Patty Jenkins' upcoming sequel.

While Gal Gadot's warrior princess has had a pretty consistent look of the classic breastplate and shield during her time in the DC Extended Universe, Wonder Woman 1984's move to the electric '80s had brought a change of wardrobe for Diana. The striking Golden Eagle armor has already become a talking point of the trailer, but it turns out, it's more than just a costume.

"It's like the Batsuit, or anything: all small parts," Lindy Hemming told Total Film magazine. "An armadillo-like articulation means that the person can move and twist and turn, and it will return to its previous position. Having said that, it was not pleasant to wear -- and no armor of any kind is pleasant to wear!"

When it comes to Wonder Woman 1984, Hemming explained how Jenkins wanted Wonder Woman's wings to become a "one-woman formation of shields, so no one can attack her."

Hemming worked on Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight and helped put together Christian Bale's armor. It became a running joke that early Batman movies made it notoriously hard for the stars to turn their heads. The modern era of Batman movies has embraced this critique and featured a more armored version of interlocking plates instead of a rubber suit.

Even if the Golden Eagle armor might not be the most comfortable costume in the world, Hemming revealed that Gadot hasn't had to wear it much on set. According to the designer, most of the movie was filmed with Gadot only wearing parts of her costume, leaving the rest of her free. Gadot previously said her costume on 2017's Wonder Woman was so tight, she couldn't breathe.

Wonder Woman's Golden Eagle armor was first introduced in 1996's Kingdom Come by Mark Waid and Alex Ross and was later adopted into New Earth canon in 1999. However, it's still unclear why Diana ditches the armor in favor of her classic look by the time the events of Batman v Superman and Justice League come around.

Directed and co-written by Patty Jenkins, Wonder Woman 1984 stars Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Kristen Wiig, Pedro Pascal and Natasha Rothwell. The film arrives in theaters Oct. 2.
