The first trailer for director Patty Jenkins' Wonder Woman 1984 delivered on the promise of the film's teaser poster released last summer. The poster for the DC Extended Universe sequel teased that Diana Prince would wear a flashy new golden armor into battle. While it was theorized this was the Kingdom- Come-inspired Golden Eagle armor, the lack of wings or protective helmet prevented fans from being certain.

However, the recent WW84 trailer showed the armor in all its glory, complete with detachable wings and headgear. The debut of the fan-favorite armor indicates that the Amazon Princess is in for an epic confrontation in the film. Since this sequel is set in the past of the DCEU and it hasn't appeared in any movies that take place after this one, it seems like this armor might not make it out of this film in one piece.

While we don't yet know the Golden Eagle armor's purpose yet, it will probably be used to face a threat Diana doesn't believe she can overcome with her regular costume. Whether it's Maxwell Lord's weapons or the Cheetah's lethal claws, there are plenty of logical reasons Wonder Woman would require such an effective suit to take into battle.

But since the film is set in the DCEU's 1984, it's not clear where this suit has been in the present. In Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, Wonder Woman fought alongside the two title characters to stop a monstrous Doomsday. Surely the armor could have come in handy against the unstoppable creature. Of course, the argument could be made that Diana didn't have the time to go get her golden armor for the pressing battle.

However, that excuse can't be used to explain its absence during the events of Justice League.

In that Zack Snyder film, Diana was warned in advance of the coming of Steppenwolf and the forces of Apokolips by her mother and the Amazons. With plenty of preparation time, Diana helped Bruce Wayne put a team of superheroes together. Therefore, she would have had ample time to also go get her armor for the big battle against the alien invaders -- if it were still intact.

For those reasons, it seems incredibly likely that the Golden Eagle armor will be destroyed before the end of Wonder Woman 1984. Otherwise, its absence in later DCEU movies wouldn't make a ton of sense

However, there could also be another reason that Diana didn't take her Golden Eagle armor to battle the Parademons in Justice League. With its Amazon origin, it's possible this specific armor is designed to deal with magical threats like the ones she deals with on her solo adventures.

If the Golden Eagle armor is designed to protect Diana primarily from magical attacks, then it's could quite feasibly survive the events of Wonder Woman 1984 intact. Regardless of what ends up happening to it, the Golden Eagle armor is one of the most powerful tools in Diana's arsenal, and it would take a truly frightening force to break it.

Directed by Patty Jenkins, Wonder Woman 1984 stars Gal Gadot as Diana, Chris Pine as Steve Trevor, Kristen Wiig as Barbara Minerva/Cheetah, Pedro Pascal and Natasha Rothwell. The film opens on June 5, 2020.
