Despite a supporting cast and setting that heavily incorporates a 1980s aesthetic, the footage and trailers released ahead of Wonder Woman 1984's debut have featured a Diana Prince that doesn't exactly embody the same period fashion sense as her costars. Star Gal Gadot has now provided an explanation for why that is.

During her interview on The Big Ticket with Marc Malkin podcast, Gadot explained that Diana's fashion sense was an intentional creative decision, saying, "We felt that Diana should always look timeless. So we wanted her to look timeless and to look elegant, but to look like she's in the 80s. So we were very precise about her looks."

Gadot went on to explain that her costar Chris Pine was the only actor in the cast who could pull off a full-on '80s look, revealing that the actor would sport his own fanny pack and '80s attire on days that he wasn't even filming scenes for the movie.

Following various release date changes due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Warner Bros. announced that Wonder Woman 1984 would be available to view on HBO Max in the United States, the same day that the film will release to theaters.

Directed and co-written by Patty Jenkins, Wonder Woman 1984 stars Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Kristen Wiig, Pedro Pascal and Natasha Rothwell. The film arrives in theaters and HBO Max in the United States on Dec. 25 and is currently in theaters in international markets.
