10 The Amazon Games

Towards the beginning of the movie, audiences are taken back to Diana's childhood, where she participates in the Themysciran equivalent of the Olympics, the Amazon Games. Besides teaching the character a lesson in morality, the scene serves as an homage to Wonder Woman's first appearance in DC comics.

In Diana's comic debut in 1941, she participates in a tournament similar to the Amazon Games. However, in the original text, she competed for the "prize" of accompanying Steve Trevor to the United States.

9 Duke of Deception

Throughout the film, the "Duke of Deception" is mentioned by name and described as an ancient deity responsible for powering the Dreamstone. Fans of Wonder Woman comics may be familiar with this reference.

In the DC Universe, the Duke of Deception is a powerful villain who can manipulate his victims' thoughts, ultimately driving them insane. Though he is only briefly mentioned in the movie, he is actually one of the primary antagonists in the Wonder Woman universe and a formidable foe.

8 Antiope Flash Back

Because Wonder Woman 1984 begins with a flashback, filmmakers can include Robin Wright reviving her role as the iconic Antiope, the Amazons' fearsome general, and Queen Hippolyta's sister.

The inclusion of Antiope's character in the film is especially significant, as she made an undeniably lasting impression on fans of the first Wonder Woman movie. For those unfamiliar, Antiope fought valiantly against the German invaders on Themyscira's shores but tragically lost her life after sacrificing herself to save Diana.

7 Bialya

During a conversation between the oil tycoon Emamair Abydos and Max Lord, Abydos mentions that he wishes to reclaim the land belonging to the Bialyan Dynasty. This fictional DC territory has notable significance in DC Comic lore.

For example, Bialya is where Dan Garret discovered the Blue Scarab, which he used to become the first Blue Beetle. Bialya is also the neighboring country to Black Adam's home in the DC universe. More recently, in the animated series Young Justice, Bialya is a militaristic country run by Queen Bee.

6 Diana's Civilian Outfit

Diana wears a stylish grey blazer throughout a portion of the film, with an open, 80's-appropriate collar. Besides just a striking ensemble, the outfit also pays homage to Lynda Carter, who played the titular character in the original television series, Wonder Woman.

In the original TV series, Lynda Carter was known for sporting countless iconic outfits that are understandably memorable. With this in mind, director Patty Jenkins decided to include this nod to the actress largely responsible for creating the character we know today.

5 Etta Candy Photo

In the previous Wonder Woman, Diana becomes close friends with Etta Candy, who works as Steve Trevor's secretary during the War. Etta is Diana's first "human" connection, often providing wisdom to Diana, helping her acclimate to her new social surroundings.

Her character also has a recurring role in DC comics as she develops her relationship with Wonder Woman. In Wonder Woman 1984, audiences get a brief glimpse of a photo on Diana's shelf, featuring an older Etta Candy in this heartwarming easter egg.

4 Trevor Ranch

On Diana's photo shelf, audiences see a picture of Diana standing under a sign that reads "Trevor Ranch." Trevor is an unmistakable reference to Steve Trevor; however, the origins' theories are a bit more obscure.

Fans have theorized that the ranch could be where Steve Trevor grew up, and Diana was retracing the steps of her lost love. Conversely, perhaps she coincidently saw the ranch, and the name reminded her of Steve, indicating the photo was more of a remembrance.

3 Simon Stagg Cameo

At several points in the film, Simon Stagg is introduced as a corrupt businessman and a financier for Max Lord's failing business. Strangely, his character is glanced over in the movie, though his role as a villain in DC comics is more prevalent.

His character was introduced in Brave and the Bold, back in 1965, as Stagg Industries' CEO. Stagg teeters between good and evil in the comics and, most notably, attempts to cure Metamorpho, who was transformed by a cursed artifact in Egypt in "Issue #57."

2 Diana Throwing Tiara

After her Aunt Antiope's untimely death, Diana inherits the iconic tiara she dons in both films. Though the first film doesn't refer to the tiara's abilities, the second installment gives a small nod to the comics' tiara.

Towards the beginning of the film, Wonder Woman throws her tiara like a boomerang to disable the surrounding security cameras. This signature move is actually much more common in the comics, and the tiara even has telepathic abilities. She also uses it to cut Superman's throat in Wonder Woman (Volume 2) #219.

1 Lynda Carter Cameo

For viewers who stick around after the movie is over, Wonder Woman 1984 has a memorable post-credits scene, featuring a cameo by the original Wonder Woman, Lynda Carter. Her portrayal was responsible for bringing the iconic character to the mainstream, making this easter egg particularly endearing.

In the movie, Lynda Carter portrays "Asteria," a champion of the Amazon's earlier film. Her character, dressed all in blue, casually saves a family from a falling pillar, exhibiting her unequivocal strength.
